Amen brotha!

It's amazing how many complete sheep are on this board. The media tells them something and they go "baaaa" and think they know absolutely everything that went on with the coaching search. I agree with Lionstop in that we knew next to nothing in reality, yet when the media feeds Lions fans any tid-bits and says "jump" we sure do have a lot of jumpers...

I am a little curious as the media has been more appreciative of the Lions hire than the fans. The media loves this story and Dungy and Manning have all but lathered Caldwell up as the greatest selection the Lions could make so are you saying the fans that think this was a good hire are sheep?

For me I know he was the OC of the 29th ranked offense in the league.

I know he had a losing record in the pros and college without Manning as a QB.

I know he was fired right before the Colts drafted Luck and he is supposed to be a QB guy.

I know Flacco and Rice had the worst years of their career.

So why is it the media that we are blindly following? Isn't that like saying Lazer is going to be our offensive coordinator because we heard the report from the media, when in fact thats not going to be the case?

Caldwell the guy, I hope he is successful but it doesn't change my opinion that Mayhew fucked this coaches search up. If I saw the jet on the tarmac or not.

Caldwell and Discipline

I keep hearing Caldwell talk about discipline and I hear others say this will be a more disciplined team.

So I am going to look into his track record as a head coach.

2009: 2nd fewest penalties in the NFL
2010: 3rd fewest penalties in the NFL
2011: 2nd fewest penalties in the NFL

Penalties are good.

2009: tied for 2nd fewest fines in the NFL.
2010: tied for 2nd fewest fines in the NFL.
2011: tied for 1st with 0 fines.

During his tenure there were 7 arrests. Noone more than once and most didn't stay on the team.

I am tired of reading about updates from the Fritz Pollard diversity and politically correct minority enforcement wing of some dumb ass foundation.

I do not give a fuck if Caldwell is white, yellow, brown, or black he is hired to win football games. And his coaching staff is an extension of that same philosophy.

If he can't win he will be fired because he couldn't get this team over the hump. Not because he is black. And I sure hope that traveling circus doesn't ever come to Detroit. I saw the same bullshit when Willingham could not get it done at Notre Dame, When Art Shell was let go in KC, and last year when Lovie Smith got booted.

As Lions fans we just want a winner. So we may not like the hire, we may not have liked the process, but we all want the Lions to win and no matter what we think today, we want Caldwell to prove the naysayers, me included, that they were wrong.

Caldwell and his staff are not Rosa Parks they are professionals and understand without success they will be fired and the bar remains the same for him as it was for every other coach.

OK done with my rant as I have seen that jackass pipe off in the media once to often….sorry!

I don't hold this past years offense against him because they had no talent. They had one decent offensive lineman. They had an ok quarterback just thrilled to be overpayed. They had two receivers that only run one route well. Ray Rice looked like a shell of his former self. That was an awful offense.

I understand why many of you are mad and dont thunk this is a good hire, but it speaks volumes of how some of you think, considering the fact that you think you know more than these guys in the NFL. Honestly, it doesn't really matter what his history was because I'm sure there's plenty of reasons why he failed when he did. I keep seeing the 29th offense stuff but the guy had absolutely nothing to work with. We should've just kept Linehan because he looks like a offensive guru compared to Caldwell.

Somebody please explain how they know that this was a bad hire or anything else without using the same stupid excuses we've already seen so far. I'll wait.

For me I know he was the OC of the 29th ranked offense in the league.
You aren't the only one that keeps repeating this, so I'll just point out the fact that in '12, Whisenhunt and his high powered Cardinals offense had the 32nd ranked offense. '11 they had the 19th. '10 they had the 31st. '09 they had the 14th. '08(SB year) they had the 4th. '07 they had the 12th.

So only once did they have a top-10 offense, yet he's being heralded as this god of an offensive guru. And the year before the SD hire, he had the league's WORST offense. Yet SD thought enough of him to run their offense which helped lead to his SD hire and an outcry from Detroit fans. Yet it was stupid on the Lions to hire Caldwell? What if we would've hired Whis as o-coord last year(coming off the league worst offense)? Would everyone still give their full support to him?

I know he had a losing record in the pros and college without Manning as a QB.
And Whis has a career losing record as a HC in the NFL even with Warner as his QB. Yet he was far and away a much better candidate than Caldwell according to most on this board.

I know Flacco and Rice had the worst years of their career.
Ray Rice is getting old(in rb years) and IMO Flacco was never an "elite" qb. However, the offense lost some playmakers due to FA and injuries. That may have played a part in their bad year.

Caldwell the guy, I hope he is successful but it doesn't change my opinion that Mayhew fucked this coaches search up. If I saw the jet on the tarmac or not.
Youre entitled to that, but just bc the plane was ready to fly there doesn't exactly mean they didn't have Caldwell as a potential hire also. I mean, the dude sat down with them and broke down plays and throws from Stafford. That was mentioned numerous times during this coaching search. I'm sure they were taking a good look at both of them. In the end, Whis took more money, a warmer climate, and the D of his choosing to Tenn. doesn't mean Detroit never wanted Caldwell and just "settled". It may in fact mean he was their 2nd choice and that doesn't mean he was an awful choice. My $.02

As for which coach I wanted, I was unsure of Whis. I even went as far as to ask that scooby poster from Arz about Whis bc I didn't know much about him. Even he was skeptical of Whis. So he doesn't have a ringing endorsement from everyone......

I would like to see Jeremiah Washburn retained. He did a fine job with that o-line and the players petitioned for him to stay.

I doubt it will be a problem. Is anyone really going to notice that a black guy left Detroit?

I am a little more comfortable if they hire Sheriden as an asistant. He was TB DC for a while. Still Austin will help the secondary big time. Those guys need more help than Stafford does. They have all the talent in the world, they just dont know how to play football.

Well... It wasn't a group. It was one guy. And he successfully got under some skin it seems.

But managed to come back anyway. ;)

He still is sighted from time to time.......

Id like this franchise to not be ran by fuck ups. I don't mean Jim Caldwell. I mean our front office. This search was a joke. One guy was interviewed who hadn't/wasn't fired from his job this season. And that guy didn't want the Lions job in the end anyway. (People have decided its the media we shouldnt listen to. Im done listening to this franchise. They have a track revord of bring full of shit.)Theyve even had issues handing guys coordinator positions. Pathetic. If people want to be optimistic about everything Lions, go for it. But it gets a bit annoying when every bit of criticism is met with the same blanket positivity rules. Whatever. We've went thru this in a dozen different scenarios already. People are overly optimistic about X, get their jimmies rustled over reality being different than their daydream then don't really face facts when it turns out they're wrong anyway.
