Sione Pouha - DL - Jets

Jets agreed to terms with NT Sione Pouha on a three-year contract.
Locking up Pouha was the Jets' top priority, and now he's signed through his age-35 season. It's a risky bet on a former bust who didn't become a starter until 2009, but Pouha hasn't missed a game since a knee injury held him out for all of 2006. He graded out as the league's top nose tackle in 2011 by Pro Football Focus, and was in the top eight in both 2009 and 2010. Paul Soliai now headlines a thin nose tackle market.

I woulda loved Soliai back in 07 I think it was in the 4th, wouldn't mind him now for the right price..

I'd also really like us to sign Ben Grubbs to lock up the RG spot.. I think he'd fit in perfectly in our scheme.

This is old news, but this is the right thread for this:

Falcons, Lofa Tatupu agree
Updated: March 10, 2012, 8:03 PM ET
The Atlanta Falcons and former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu have agreed to a deal, the team announced Saturday.

The contract is for two years and has a maximum value of $5.75 million, a source told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

The 29-year-old sat out the 2011 season after being released by Seattle in August.

Curtis Lofton, Atlanta's starting middle linebacker since he was drafted in 2008, will be an unrestricted free agent Tuesday.

Tatupu is a three-time Pro Bowler and played a major role in taking the Seahawks to their only Super Bowl appearance during his rookie season in 2005.

But he struggled with injuries the past few seasons and has seen a decline in production. He missed most of 2009 after tearing a pectoral muscle.

In 2010, Tatupu played in all 16 games, but his 88 tackles were the fewest of his career in a full season, and he needed surgery on both knees in the offseason.

Tatupu was in his prime in his first few seasons, when he recorded more than 100 tackles and went to the Pro Bowl each year from 2005 to 2007.

Information from ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas and ESPNChicago.com's Jeff Dickerson was used in this report.

49ers sign CB Brock to one-year deal

The 49ers today signed cornerback Tramaine Brock to a $540,000 exclusive rights contract, according to Brock's agent Ron Slavin. Brock began the 2011 season as the 49ers' No. 3 cornerback, and he came up with interceptions in the first two games of the season. But he broke his hand in the Week 2 game against Dallas and missed three weeks. That time off allowed rookie Chris Culliver to slide into the No. 3 job, which he held for the rest of the season.

Brock is interesting. He was undrafted out of Belhaven University in 2010 but made the 53-man roster that year instead of fullback Michael Robinson, a controversial move at the time. Now he could have a big role in a defense that will face the likes of Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, Drew Brees and the Saints, Eli Manning and the Giants and Matthew Stafford and the Lions (and Peyton Manning and the Cardinals??) in 2012.

As of now, it appears as if cornerback Carlos Rogers will hit the open market on Tuesday. He could be back if he doesn't get the offer he wants, but the 49ers are prepared to move on without him if he does find the right suitor. Under that scenario, they likely will look for an inexpensive veteran and/or draft a cornerback in April. Without Rogers, Culliver would be penciled in as the starter opposite Tarell Brown while Brock would be penciled in, initially at least, as the No. 3 corner.

Last year, Culliver played 41 percent of the 49ers' defensive snaps. The No. 3 cornerback promises to play at least that amount in 2012.

Don't like it but they stick to their valuations. We'll know in time if they can get it right for the long haul.

It's looking as though Rogers will not be signed before FA begins. Niners are being proactive with this signing. Niners may have to sign a veteran CB or draft one if Rogers signs with another team. I would feel more comfortable having Culliver as the nickel CB than Brock.

Still like Rogers over Porter.

I'm pretty sure everyone outside of Tracy Porter's family does. But Porter could be a much cheaper option for longer with a slight dropoff in play the next year

even if we can draft someone like bentley or boykins, we'll still need to replace rogers. corner is one position we need solid depth to handle all those passing offenses.

Seems they are treating the Rogers situation like Goldson last year. Will let him hit the market to drive his price down. I believe they think the front 7 is what made our secondary so good last yr and they think we can replicate the play again without overspending for CB's.

Randy Moss just arrived at 49ers facility, wearing green hoodie sweatshirt. No comments as heads into this construction zone

Pending 49ers free agent Joshua Morgan entered 49ers facility "to figure out right now" his chance of re-signing

Still though, it took someone who came in with the reputation of no hands and ended the season with a career high in INTs and 6 of his career 14 with us....

Sign him!

Texans cut Eric Winston, and as far as I can tell, well over 50% of those working in the football world right now are going crazy.
