I just see ZERO reason to draft someone that rated high as a Tackle to play Guard. It makes ZERO sense. Throw fooking Cross in at Guard then if you think it's that easy and draft one of these top Tackles. But that it, its not THAT easy.
I think the bigger issue is that you need a player that is willing to move from tackle to guard. Most tackles are reluctant because tackles get paid more

IDK if "just for the sake of need" is how I would put it, but team construction does matter. How efficient can the offense be if the OL doesn't vastly improve? The Seahawks OL was ranked near the bottom of the league in 2024 (any where from 28th to 31st ). Need a difference maker for the IOL and one will be available with the 18th pick, without being a reach, at pick 50 and later maybe or maybe not. There will be a very good outside type of receiver available later in the draft and with JSN and Kupp, WR or TE just isn't a big enough priority to use the 18th pick on. Nor is Golden so good that a team should never pass on him. Most see him as a nice WR2 in the pro's.
I don't want to reach for a OL w/ 18 just for the sake of need is what I meant to say...

It comes down to i have ZERO belief that this FO knows how to even grade out Olineman and its bad. You have talking heads that SHOULDN'T know better than your guys laughing at your picks when talking about Oline and saddly THEY have been more right than the Hawks FO. Nothing has changed so why all of a sudden this trust that they get it right this time?

This FO Group needs to poach proven Oline talent from other teams because they have proven over the years that they can not evaluate it. I bet more than HALF the people on Sportshoopla could have done a better job at drafting OLINEMAN than the Hawks have.

We will get to see first hand once again in a month how they have improved or "stayed the same" in that area. The GM didn't change how he values Olineman so i see no point to believe the scouting has improved for Olineman also.

Well yeah they haven't been good at it. Got to hope the light comes on this year and they seek help from folks with better insight. Supposedly the offensive staff has been hired to help in this regard (improve the OL). All we can do is wait and see.

Since 2010, the Seattle Seahawks have drafted the most offensive linemen, with a total of 16, more than any other team in the NFL.

ouch

We should have had the best Oline for the past decade.

Not sure I believe that stat because the Seahawks have 27 OL since 2010....

Christian Haynes
Sataoa Laumea
Mike Jerrell
Anthony Bradford
Olusegun Oluwatimi
Charles Cross
Abraham Lucas
Stone Forsythe
Damien Lewis
Phil Haynes
Jamarco Jones
Ethan Pocic
Justin Senior
Germain Ifedi
Rees Odhiambo
Joey Hunt
Terry Poole
Mark Glowinski
Justin Britt
Garrett Scott
Ryan Seymour
Michael Bowie
James Carpenter
John Moffitt
Russell Okung
Max Unger

But having said that I think our biggest problem has been a failure to retain good linemen, especially on the interior.

Maybe they mean "with a total of "16 more" than any other team? :O and they put the comma in the wrong place? lol yeah i went back and counted them just a few weeks ago and i had 15 or 16 in the first 4 rounds not counting rounds 5-7!

Our problem hasn't been retaining them it's been even FINDING them. You going to retain Moffit? Carpenter? Lewis was the only ok Olineman we really lost. Well and we let Britt walk but he was getting old. Unger was traded away but he was just ok at best.

Carpenter played 11 years in the league and was fairly competent. Max Unger was a Pro Bowler. Damien Lewis is good. Pocic is still a starter. Okung was a Pro Bowler.

I certainly don't want to pretend that we are good at drafting linemen. But I do think that we would be better if we kept the few that are capable.

I think this is the central issue. I doubt we've been any worse than most teams at picking talent on the line. If you go back and look at all the players drafted there since 2010 in the first 1-3 rounds, you don't see all that many misses. But what you do see is nobody getting a 2nd contract here other than Justin Britt. We've been perpetually losing starting quality linemen while replacing them with _____ ? I think that's really the biggest problem -- not JS or PC or whoever not being able to know a good blocker when they see one. Schneider just doesn't wanna spend the cheese to keep them around past the 1st contract.

Yup. And continuity is critical for offensive lines. Which is why I get not wanting to make wholesale changes on the OL this offseason. But I think it is insane that we have 30+ million in cap and we are rolling the dice on a draft pick being able to be a starting LG in year 1.

There was some rumors about a week or so ago saying Seattle may trade for Teller (Browns) but that seems to have gone dark. Also he plays right guard, so not sure if we did that if it means Haynes would go to Center or something? I don't see how Haynes doesn't start this year... all he did with the Huskies was wide ZBS which is what we want to do...

unger was drafted by tim ruskell, schneider traded him for a TE :L

It wasn't so much that he traded Unger for a tight end... it's that they then took a huge mismatch receiving threat, and asked him to block..... lol.

Watch us take Ty Warren and then ask him to block 90% of the time, lol. And then draft our first OL in the 5th round but say we addressed the blocking issues because we took a tight end.. :pound:

I think it's a bit of a circular problem. Because they can't get the OL to be competent, it forces the tight ends to stay in and block more, which neutralizes them as passing threats.
