I would be in favor of us signing Jacoby Jones now that he's been cut by the Ravens. We need a reliable person on punts and kickoffs and he does have the Kubiak connection.
Yeah that would be nice having a reliable capable return guy but prob is Jacoby thinks he`s at least a #2 wr and he would also being asking that. Too much mula for a glorified return guy in reality.

Looks like the the cuts are picking up pace as we get closer to the FA start. Hawk cut by GB for one. I always thought he was a tad over-rated anyway. Had flashes but saw him get beat too many times. I like our backers better.

Looks like Pot Roast and Franklin are all but history....

Terrance Knighton, Orlando Franklin Leaving Denver Broncos - Just Blog Baby - An Oakland Raiders Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and more.

Still not digging letting Knighton go, but somebody posted on here that he only played about 50% of the snaps last year......that I didn't know, so in my eyes, if he's looking for a $10 mil a year deal to play half the snaps, then he can head to Oakland with Del Rio.

Knighton only played around 48% of the defensive snaps. He has shown up the last 2 training camps very overweight and has been fined heavily by the team. I think when the coaches and FO look at that they just have a hard time justifying spending pro bowl level money on a guy that just isn't always that for the team. Don't get me wrong I love me some Potroast but I also think for that kind of money I expect more out of the player.

Also people are going to have to remember that this off season the Broncos just don't have a ton of cap room. We have a decent level of cap money with the $26-28 million but have to think of it this way. DT will probably take up about $13 million of that, our draft picks another $2-3 million, our RFA will take up about $6 million, and Elway likes to keep about $5-10 million for carryover money. So that right there takes up the entire $26 million.

Now from the sound of it Elway is trying to work out a new deal with Manning that could bring us about $9 million in extra cap space. This gives us a bit more freedom to sign maybe 2-3 more players to the roster but for the most part the Broncos are going to have to rely on some of their draft picks from this upcoming draft and the past 2 drafts to really step up and become starters. They can sign a couple such as I could see them signing Wiz2 from the Raiders who wants about $3 million a year. I could see them bringing in a guy like AJ Hawk for another $2-3 million to be added depth to the linebacker core, and maybe sign a guy like Bulaga or Boling to play Guard or Right Tackle as well. This then would require a couple of cuts such as Colquitt being gone, Ramirez gone (saves about $5-6 million right now). So we have some options but Elway is definitely going to have to get creative and make sure not to completely destroy the team for the future at the same time.

Hey CD....I was watching NFL network or one of them about a month ago and they said Denver would have even more cap room next yr. Am I mistaken or are they, or?

Well of course the Broncos will have more cap space next year but they will also have only about half a team actually signed. They have $51 million in Cap Space (that includes Peyton at a cap hit of $21.5 million) but they also have the fewest players signed through next year. This is where the Broncos signing players to essentially 1-2 year deals actually catches up with them some in they will have decent roster turnover compared to other teams. My guess is that gets slowed down a bit in the fact that there is a good chance the Broncos have 8-10 draft picks this year and probably 9-10 draft picks again next year just because of Comp picks with all the players they are losing possibly this off season. So with that 24 players signed there is a good chance we have close to 50 by next year just with draft picks.

Also remember for next year we will have Von Miller, Malik Jackson, Derek Wolfe, Danny Trevathan, Brock Osweiler, and many more that possibly will be needing signed. So while the Broncos could push some of the cap hits for this year to next year it just means we run into this problem next year of having no cap space and a ton of young talent needing to be signed. It is why I think they will let guys like Knighton and possibly Franklin walk as that is possibly $14-20 million a year just between those two guys with one of them only being a part time player in Knighton.

Thanks for clearing that up for me CD. More easy to understand when written than listening for this `ol man. I agree that I think Knighton and Franklin will be gone for the obvious reasons, esp Franklin and the zone-blkg skill set. Prob good chance on JT since you need a good blkg Te in that system as well. I like the Casey ( Eagles) possibility. Going to be very interesting in the next few wks or so no doubt. I think we`ll see some big surprises or should I say, financial/ guaranteed money/ suspension looming character guys, that could possibly be released this yr unless the teams do some nifty restructuring and can smooze the agents for some big name guys releases. If-in-a you believe all the media speculation, etc.

Well looks like the Broncos are going to put the franchise tag on D. Thomas today before the 4 p.m. deadline. The two parties seem pretty far apart in what his value is. The Broncos I guess offered him a contract that was worth $13 million a year while D. Thomas' party is wanting $15 million a year. If this is the case, and I hate saying this, then honestly I am ok having D. Thomas walk after this season. That is just too much money for a position that in my opinion we have see is not as marquee as some would have you believe. Look at this past season for the Seahawks and Patriots. Neither have a big time receiver but did just fine. Throw in we did use a premium pick on a guy in Latimer that if he can grow could take over as our top receiver. Obviously have to wait and see which is why it is good to Tag DT this year but if Latimer shows he can handle being one of our top-2 guys at the position then I say spend the money elsewhere.

I pretty much agree with this. I will also add that a player who is tagged sometimes reaches a new deal with his old team the following year, so putting the tag on DT doesn't necessarily mean that this is his last season in Denver.

You are right they can still sign him long-term. I'm just starting to question whether signing him to a big time deal is the best thing for the team. You can only have so many big contracts on a team and honestly WR just is not one of my top priority positions for spending the most money other than Peyton on the team. Don't get me wrong I love DT and think he is great for our team. If Latimer though proves to be a very good receiver this next season then I think it eliminates the need to sign DT long-term to a big contract. That means that $15 million can be spent elsewhere such as resigning Von Miller long-term. Or it could mean we can fix our OL. To me with the team looking to transition into being a more run-oriented type team getting a top tier OL makes sense.

The Broncos did give him the non-exclusive tag. This means he can negotiate now with other teams and if a team makes him an offer the Broncos have the right to match that offer or let him sign with that other team with them then sending 2 1st round picks to the Broncos. Could be interesting if there is a team that say is picking after the top-3 WR's get taken and need somebody to play the WR position. A great example is that of the Browns. Good chance at least that Cooper and White are gone before they pick at 12. They need somebody with Gordon suspended for the next year to come in and play the position. It makes sense for them to then give us their 1st round pick this year at 19 and then next years 1st round pick while still having the 12th pick in the draft this year to help out. This then allows the Broncos to grab one of the actual decent OL players or if one of the pass rushers falls to that pick get them then go OL at 28.

Congrats on the new Broncette. I have two daughters, both married and both have two kids. As much as fathers hate the young who wear their hormones on their forehead, the resulting grandchildren are better than their parents. Especially when you get a grandson who can play sports.............My 13 year old has been a QB since he was 5 and a PG since he was 4. I have no idea where he got the gifts but he's been invited to the Manning Camp this summer. Looks like his grandparents will be spending a week in New Orleans.........

Anyway, girls are great and they bring tremendous joy to their dads.......again congrats.
