The Rick Mirer and Joey Galloway trades worked out for us as well... But not for the Bears or Cowboys...

Yah it'd be interesting to see a summary of all 1st round trades and what they did before and after... seems like a lot are busts. The QBs sure as hell haven't worked out lately (Wilson, Watson). Here's a pretty good list (but about 5-6 years old) of a variety of QBs for 1st rounders...

Wilson was the last "solid to Great" Trade, before that it hadn't looked so hot with PC and JS. What we got for Wilson is still being graded out though. Cross has been ok, a young player pass but needs to step up for where he was picked. Mofa has only gotten better, He could explode this year but we have to see it. Witherspoon had a GREAT rookie year but So did Woolen the year before remember? Lets see it again. Speeking of Woolen anyone worried about the team using Zone 70%+ of the time???

I think this could play better to his skills honestly. Woolens agility and quickness scores were something like the 25th percentile. But tracking a guy through his zone and then breaking on the ball using that elite speed. Could be interesting, but will he hit guys with anyforce when its not possible to break up the pass...

Well yah, that was in the Holmgren era - but I hear ya. It was another 1st round trade blunder.

At least trading Wilson was correct. That really worked out well for us. Mafe, Witherspoon, Cross, and Hall...

I know Hall hasn't gotten a lot of playing time (why I dunno) but hopefully MacDonald can work with him and fix him up.

Yeah, exactly my point: 1) much better to trade players in return for picks than the other way around; 2) poor picks for player trades in different eras helps make the case that it's a bad idea.

I say we stop giving up #1 picks in trades for current players... I'm ok if we do it to move up in the draft or something but we've been bitten far too many times in the butt when trading high picks for current players... Doesn't ever seem to work out regards to the value we give up and the ROI...

yeah ever sense the Marshawn Lynch trade in the PC era nothing after that never seemed to work out

Well, I don't regret the Duane Brown trade. LTs are incredibly valuable, and he was more than capable for several years. Also no 1st round pick involved in that, and I think those are the trades that have gone particularly wrong for this franchise over the years.

Yah Duane Brown was a good trade IMO. I also think him visibly yelling at Wilson on the field is one of the reasons we let Wilson go. You can't ask your OT to do much when you're dropping 10 yards back.

For a team with so many questionmarks at Linebacker i am shocked that Levi Bell has not been scooped back up. I liked what i saw out of him in the 2023 preseason. I honestly thought he did enough to snag a depth role on the active roster as a Linebacker and ST player last year, Well that didn't happen. Just looking at that Linebacker room and i do not feel comfortable going into the 2024 season with these guys as a group. There is no depth at all. We all know that your linebackers are some of if not THE MOST important players on the field in a defense and i do not feel comfortable. Preseason can make me either feel better or just get sick to my stomach even more.

Are any of you at all worried about our Linebacker group? Mostly the MLB and cover OLB. I say cover because we got some Linebackers that are just rushers and thats all they do and others that are Meh when dropping back and a liability.

Well Baker and Dodson are already on PUP... so yah... ILB would be the biggest concern of the defense.

I mean it's not a surprise. We only had so many draft picks... ILB was a major concern but Pat Queen at that money was just not worth it. I'd prefer we bulk up the DL (which we did) because bulking up the LBer position is not working. Hall, Mafe (I get EDGE rushers) is just not gonna cut it. And, Brooks nope. Wagner was great last year but wearing down... investing in the LBers and especially interior without the DL is just a waste... they just get mowed over by Guards/Centers.

Well lets hope Tyrice Knight becomes a STUD because we need something there.

I try hard not to get very worked up about things in the off-season or camp, but it's definitely not great that neither of the 2 LBs we signed are hitting the field with everyone else. Hopefully it's just the team being cautious and they get out there soon. Every camp rep counts when it's new players on a new team in a new system.

And Drake Thomas is out too... at this point we're throwing out Knight and Rhattigan. Least Denver/New England are the first two games - not exactly powerhouse offenses or a run game.

Connor Williams (Center) visiting Seattle... he's played really well but I think dealt with some injuries last year? Either way, that could be a big boost to our OL in the longer term... I don't think he's ready to go for the start... but if Oluwatimi is struggling it could be a good swap in.

Williams is a very good player. I have no doubts that if they signed him and he is healthy he instantly takes over the starting role at center. I believe he was graded as either the #1 or #2 center in 2023 before his ACL injury. The issue is he was on one of the best olines in the NFL so that with out a doubt helped him but he is still a very good center. VERY good.

Do the Hawks have ROOM for him though, whats the cap space? Would be tight.

He can also play Guard at a high level.

Julian Love signed a 3 year contract UP to $36M... the biggest thing will be what the current cap hit... he was about $8M, if it's like $5M or something, that may free up money for either some ILB depth or maybe Williams.

Either way I like the signing. Love is only 26 and he was almost a top 20 overall safety according to PFF, and he's coming off a pro bowl. He should continue to get better and he was one of the better defenders on the field for us the second half the season.

Seahawks brought in Marquise Blair for a look. I always liked Blair but the injuries really knocked him out and he was never the same after he left Seattle. I would love to see him get his mojo back be it with Seattle or someone else. He was a talented kid.

Same he could never stay healthy. He was a mid 2nd round pick... you expect a decent starter out of that... he's only 27, maybe he found the fountain of youth but I'm not holding my breath. I don't think we need ANYTHING else in the secondary. I saw Walterfootball (one of his staff) had us drafting a CB in the 1st round next year and I nearly choked on my drink.

We're actually running out of positions to play guys in the secondary lol... are we gonna be the first 2-2-7 defense in NFL history? lmao... Carroll was certainly heading there.

Yeah Drafting a CB when we are like 6 Deep there makes no sense. Seahawks 100% need Linebackers and a Safety or 2 on Defense. Oline and TE on Offense as a 2nd tier need.

CB's Woolen, Witherspoon, Brown, Burns, Jackson, and Bryant ( CB/S ) are all capable of being starters. Where would we put a 2025 rookie CB? We have a log jam at CB.

We still need DL too. We ignored it for way too long. Reed is probably going to deteriorate this year and if he doesn't he certainly will in 2025 because he'll be nearly 33. Williams is 30... Hankins is probably done. Outside of Murphy and Jones (who may go to EDGE) we really have nothing much at DL. And who knows if Murphy will pan out...

OL is still a need. It still drives me insane we took Eskridge of Humphrey (who I wanted that year and was available).

Not to sound snippy but I disagree with your comment on drafting another safety. We just signed Love to a 3 year $36M (up to, don't know details yet) contract. That's enough. We can plug an average FS in there at this point... We need focus on ILB, DL, OL... TE maybe but we just signed Fant to a pretty hefty deal and drafted another with our 4th. And frankly I think Bryant at SS would be great... he's a great tackler and run defender... not great in coverage but that's why you put him at SS.

We basically need a repeat of this years draft. OL/DL/LBer (first 3 picks). And then we do need to think about QB as well unless Howell starts turning it on. Word is at TC the gap between him and Geo is pretty large. Safety and TE are close to the bottom of needs IMO. I think the only reason Blair is here is because Reed is injured.

So you want a Average back end, got it. Love is servicable yes and he had a pretty good year last year but he can be upgraded. Should have grabbed Hamilton when we had the chance in 2022. In my eyes Cross has not played to the level of a 9th Pick. Lucas has out performed him when on the field. Now with Hindsight I would 100% take him over Cross.

People seem to forget when you got dog shit on the back end then you replace with ham and cheese and it looks WAY better that doesn't mean they are Great. It's like a average player playing on a team with no talent how it makes that average player look like a stud. Love is servicable yes he is a Bradley McDougald type. He can be upgraded but is more than sevicable as he has his moments. Time will tell if he is a flash in the pan.
