TBF...McNeil is a more than a capable OFer....and Conforto has played CF in previous years...and Frazier wasn't even supposed to be the everyday 3B...but yeah...that being said..
We're really missing Brandon Nimmo, and for that matter, Jed Lowrie...who has yet to even play 1 inning this season so far because of nagging injuries. His slow return has been a major setback. Hopefully one or both will finally be good to go in the 2nd half.

Geeez..it just never seems to end with this team and the injury bug.....Maybe it's part of the Wilponzi curse?
As the say..."just because you can put someone in a different position other than their normal one doesn't mean it's a good thing to do and doesn't mean they can play it well"...I personally think it's a huge problem for them...this MLB ...not Little League or softball...
Too many of the same players..2 1st basemen ..
3 utility guys..too much shuffling around ...its not good

Centerfield is not Conforto's strength..he's a corner guy...McNeil is true infielder not an outfielder...same for Smith...just not good...sorry ...but its true..

At least play Gomez in center then Conforto and McNeil in the corners..
Gomez is a true centerfielder

True...but normally that kind of thing would usually not be such a glaring problem and would get mitigated with good defense, timely clutch hitting, and quality pitching (especially from the bullpen) Trouble is, they really haven't been getting much of any of that lately...except on an inconsistent basis. It's like taking 1 step forward...then 2 or 3 steps back.
Frustrating to watch to say the least.

LOL...leadoff single by Darvish..then a 2 run HR by Russell.

Mets down 4-3 in the 5th.
Vargas is over 100 pitches now..and about to get yanked.
I'm surprised he got Rizzo to bite on that changeup for the 2nd out.

edit:
Pounders comes in w/ 2 outs..& a runner on 2nd.

*He kept them at bay.

4-3 Cubbies end of 5.

Trade Smith...

They more than likely would've done so by now...and Lagares too...but their hands are tied due to the Lowrie & Nimmo injuries and are kind of backed up against a wall into a corner.
Unfortunately they have limited options currently which means their margin for error becomes even smaller.

Jeff McNeil clutches up with a 2 out ribeye single to plate Hechy...but gets thrown out at 2nd on the cut off play.

Stretch time at Wrigley.

5-4 Mets.

Seth Lugo is coming in from the pen.

edit: he sets them down in order.

Onto the 8th. LGM!

LOL at Dom Smith.

WTF??

Mets had 2 on...after a Cano double and a 2 out IBB to Davis to get to him....so he abruptly just nonchalantly goes after the 1st pitch to ground out weakly.

Holy shit.

:tsk:

Such lack of focus and zero sense of situational hitting whatsoever.

That's the kind of nonsense that's been killing this team.
It's as if some of these guys are friggin brain dead.
Ugghhh.

Wow...Lugo/Metsies dodge a bullet in the bottom 8th with a nice defensive run down play between 2nd & 3rd to end the inning. Started by McNeil....7-4-5-4.

Heading to the 9th. Mets clinging to a 5-4 lead.
