• SYNDERGAARD'S ELBOW IS APPARENTLY OK
Noah Syndergaard left his start Wednesday afternoon with elbow discomfort, but an MRI showed there was no structural damage and he has been cleared to resume his normal between-starts routine. David Schoenfield is still worried, though. Five things we learned Wednesday

Noah Syndergaard will make his scheduled start on Monday against the Washington Nationals in D.C., Terry Collins said. The Mets do not intend to skip Syndergaard.

Yoenis Cespedes said he wanted to return to the lineup on Thursday night despite his sprained left wrist, but Terry Collins decided to give him another day. Cespedes received a cortisone injection on Wednesday, and it's generally advisable to give that 48 hours to kick in before returning to action. Cespedes said he had the same wrist issue in 2013 and it lasted only a couple of days.

The Mets may be a little cautious with Steven Matz's pitch count on Friday after he disclosed elbow tightness in his last start. Terry Collins prefers limiting pitches slightly to skipping a start and disrupting rhythm.

Bartolo Colon will throw a bullpen session on Thursday to test his bruised right thumb. Manager Terry Collins remains confident that Colon will pitch Sunday as scheduled against the Braves at Turner Field.

Mets can sign Jose Reyes as soon as Saturday

ATLANTA -- Here are the lineups for Thursday's 7:10 p.m. ET series opener between the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves.

The Mets have won a franchise-record-matching seven straight games at Turner Field. Overall, the Mets are 63-103 at the ballpark, which is in its final year hosting the Braves.

After a three-game stretch in which he posted a 0.90 ERA, Matt Harvey allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks in six innings against the Braves last Friday at Citi Field. Atlanta went on to sweep the three-game series.

Sandy Alderson explaining the Michael Conforto demotion:

"I think in talking with the coaching staff and the manager, we just felt that, look, this is counterproductive and what we need to do is get him to Las Vegas, get his swing back, and then hopefully get him back here within a relatively short period of time"
