I want us to win all of our remaining games against Oakland just to piss them off and then lose enough other games to get the #1 overall pick.

I'm not sure they over rate him as much as it's a supply and demand issue. As my dad used to say. Something is worth whatever someone will pay for it.

That is the key. It's why we overpaid for a Garza because the supply is small but the demand is great and the same reason someone may overpay for Rios because teams become desperate. It's a sellers market.

4,5,6 runs and decent pitching will win games. We have a hard time getting both at the same time.

Well, the point I'm trying to make is that I may overrate Rios, but so does the most important man of all, and that's JD.

He got him for Leury Garcia, not much overrating there, otherwise he would've offered more before waivers

I'm on board..... Lose to the Angels and Yankees for all I care. Just beat the damn A's.

Exactly, that's why we need solid pitching and a decent but not great offense (at least at first). We can win a lot that way....Giants!! Rays...

Nice win tonight Rangers, I gave them no chance with Williams on the mound...

I've always liked Williams since I found out he wears that pink glove to honor his mom who died of breast cancer. He's always seemed to be fairly serviceable too... nothing special but decent enough. I remember him often serving as mop-up long man for when CJ Wilson would self-destruct by the 3rd inning.

Well I'll say this in advance, if Baltimore makes that trade, they're idiots

can't say I disagree. But I thought the same thing when we traded for MG. Not that radical, but I was thinking "we better resign this guy, cuz we gave up a shit ton more than I thought. But if we win a ring who cares."

In law school terms... Teams that NEED to win to make the playoffs are idiots. Baltimore is a team that NEEDS to win to make the playoffs, otherwise 2 teams could overtake them. Therefore, Baltimore is an idiot team.

Edit: along with all the other teams that will overpay for a player to make the playoffs... hell, it sorta looks like detroit just did for soria. Even though it was to a much lesser degree, it was still an overpayment nonetheless that cost them 2 of their top 3 or 4 pitching prospects

Baltimore and Detroit are in the same position..... They must overpay to upgrade their teams. Both teams have crucial upcoming free agents and are in " win now" mode. Should be interesting. I'm expecting Rios to be gone. What we get for him could help us long term.

He wouldn't help us next year, but he was ranked #46 overall after the end of last year, and he's been damn good in HiA this year.

Plus he's be coming home. Which, history has shown, is helpful to performance. Hopefully that bodes well for Choice's future.

Soria's return was a pretty big overpayment IMO. Not a huge one, but pretty big. The market for Rios seems bigger. Time will tell what his market actually is.

I get what you are trying to say... But its not the same situation.

Rios was a salary dump + after July 31 trade/waiver claim. Im sure CHI got better offers before the deadline... But once that waiver claim was made, they had three options. Get SOMETHING for him, let him go for nothing... Or keep him.

And Option 3 wasnt really an option.

Eh, I saw that trade as Edwards and Ramirez for Garza, I can handle that

We did well to sucker someone into taking Olt as a top prospect, but I had zero faith in him to hit at the ML level, and I certainly had no faith in Grimm

Edwards has a high effort delivery and was due to breakdown eventually, which he has (I still liked him though) and I liked Ramirez's secondary stuff, but he could never stay healthy or consistent

I put Gausman higher than anyone on that list, and Rios lower than Garza, whether he performed for us or not to what we expected
