Of course there are successful QBs from outside the first round, but they come so rarely that it is hard to count on one happening... so to me a 2nd round pick is way too soon, for a stopgap... I would rather them improve everything they can, pray that Bryce petty shows something, and if he doesn't, then you will likely be bad anyway, and have a top pick next year for a real attempt in finding the future QB...

I understand what you are saying. I don't blame you for wanting to wait as I don't see any of the guys past the top-2 that just scream have to draft. I just meant more when you have question marks at the QB position I just don't want to put all my eggs in one basket so if there is a guy you like then take the chance and just see what happens.

C. Jones...1st round talent that I thought could slip to early 2nd. I can scratch him on my 2nd rd board...I didn't expect him to be there anyway.
I think he'll go rd1 if only because 3-4 teams don't have quite as many options as 4-3 teams this time around imo.

I feel like the Chiefs are going to trade up or down IRL. I think they'll be targeting secondary help.

Lynch is still on the board and I can imagine he won't be after DEN picks...I tend to agree with you on the 2nd tier guys like Cook, but I do think he in particular is a better prospect than Petty.

You never know...I could be operating with the thought that we are going to bring in Kaepernick so going QB early is not of high priority...

Steelers really just need depth at DE so he was too much of a luxury for me @ 25...I think a few of the DTs like Nkemdiche, Rankins, Ashawn Robinson can flex out and give you good production as a DE in a 3-4...they're not going to get him but PIT has interest in Nkemdiche I've heard.

Rankins is strictly 4-3 and Nkemdiche is this year's Jadaveon Clowney. All sizzle and not a lot of steak.

I really don't see this at all. No way his speed rush/bend is good enough.

I'm with you on this one, Not Clowneyish, but after his pro day results, the kid is a better athlete than maybe I'm giving him credit for.

I just think if ATL or another 4-3 had gotten him...he's a plug and play strong side DE. Playing along side some good DTs...he should be a consistent 7+ sack guy every yr.

I didn't see your post before I said the same thing .Best fit is a 4-3 end, and more of a good run defender, 8-10 sack guy than a 15-18 sack guy. Could be a solid 5T if he could get to 290. As a 3-4 backer, he'd get ISO'd in coverage and destroyed

Probably right on Rankins, but you get my point.

Nkemdiche could be a pro bowler or out of the league in a 4 yrs...bottom of the 1st round on a decent team is where he can flourish...drafted high (pardon the pun) to be the man...no.

Clowney injuries have made this statement somewhat meaningless now, but I'm going to say it anyway...this was a classic case of the wrong scheme for this player and part of why I don't like Bosa as a OLB...it's foreign territory, at least to start.

He doesn't have to drop in coverage especially for Baltimore though. They rarely do that. I kinds of agree there's a good chance he ends up a 8-10 sack guy and good run defender but for one that's a damn good player and that's his worst care imo and his best case is say 15 sacks and good run d.

I am excited to see this whole voting process. In our usual drafts whoever we take in the 1st round is a consensus great player but in this some of us are going to think that picks in the first round and even top 10 are horrible picks and its a fairly justifiable thing.

I'm not knocking the kid, I actually think he will end up in Dallas, which will be a nice scheme fit. In a 3-4, there are times where the offense will dictate the OLB play coverage. Say you play NE, and the Pats go 3 wide with Gronk and a RB, Gronk opposite the OLB. Just before the snap, Gronk motions to Bosa's side and they snap it.....now let's say you don't go over/under against Gronk with your LB and safety....the back goes into the pattern to that side, who's checking him, the DE? I'm sure you could come up with a scheme that still allows Bosa to rush, even when there are 2 wides, Gronk and a back going out to his side, but it would leave a mismatch somewhere else

His combine was pretty poor. Certainly not everything but aconcern

I get that but 1 you can scheme to avoid that as much as possible, and 2 no OLB in the league is coming anywhere close to covering Gronk and for that matter most TEs worth anything.

I don't really have a great deal of faith I the combine results. Bill Belichick said in a press conference that a lot of kids spend way to much effort getting ready for the combine when they should be getting ready to play professional football. He said that many of today's All Pros had bad combines but could play football. His best remark was that no one plays professional combine. He said that no one jumps and touches a bunch of colored fingers, no one runs out on the field and bench presses 225 30 times, but they better be ready to jump and out reach a 6'4" WR or push a 350 lb. DL 30 times a game.

Only 3 more picks and we're out of Round 1. Think we can do before I go to bed tonight? 3-1/2 hours?

I disagree, to a point. You could have one such 3-4 OLB, who strictly rushes, because, combined with your front 3, that's a 4 man rush, so Bosa would essentially be a 3rd and long/obvious passing down only player. If you pair him with Suggs, one of them is playing coverage or you are strictly rushing 5, which will get you killed if that's all you can do
