So, I am looking at the mock drafts on walterfootball... Both Walter and Charlie, both have the Jets getting a QB in the second round... I really hope they are wrong... To me, this makes no sense...

Well it makes sense considering Fitzpatrick isn't signed right now and most likely no matter what the Jets will need to draft a QB. Maybe not the early rounds if they do get Fitzpatrick signed but yeah right now QB makes sense.

Derrick Henry has bust written all over him. Lee was a way better pick imo.
Lee is a Bruce Irvin type and Bruce Irvin didn't make it to his 2nd contract. Not sure what to make of him.

But what does a second rounder do?? they got Bryce Petty already... It is not like they are drafting Goff, or any other sure thing... The last thing I want is the Jets to have competition at the position... Young players need confidence, and confidence is easiest to give when they don't have to constantly look behind their shoulders... Either sign a veteran or draft a QB very late as an insurance plan... BUT NO COMPETITION!!!!

I only had 3 players left with a 1st round grade and the other two made no sense. He seems like a perfect fit as a 3-4 DE so the pick seemed like a slam dunk.

I guess I am the opposite of you. If they can't handle competition and go out and win the job then they won't be able to handle the pressures of being an NFL QB. It is why I love what Elway is doing for the Broncos right now with having our draft pick from last year, Sanchez, possibly Kaepernick, and most likely still go and draft a QB. Strength in numbers that maybe one of them pans out to be at least an average QB. Again I like the idea of them having to fight for their job. A QB in this league needs to be mentally tough and earn the job not be pandered to and just handed the job.

Well he was definitely the top guy on my big board still left. I too love him as a 3-4 DE. He is a bit raw but his explosiveness is down right impressive. Get some good coaching and you could be looking at a top-10 talent from this draft.

You realize, I am a jet fan, and how the Jets mismanaged both Mark Sanchez and Geno smith... not saying either could have been great, but they certainly didn't have the opportunity they should have...

I understand that. I like the new coaching staff though to handle a situation of competition at the QB position. I'm also not a big Bryce Petty fan. So unless Fitzpatrick comes back soon I would say QB sky rockets to near the top of draft needs.

If I remember correctly, Irvin was drafted as an undersized pass rusher, not a good all-around 4-3 LB. I don't see that comparison at all unless you're referring to his personality, in which case I have no knowledge of either situation.

Wow...SEA, GB, and KC all hit 300 yd drives.

I suspected SEA would go for Spence, but Rankin is a great addition inside. Spence supposedly has tested clean for 15 mos so maybe he's got his head screwed on right now. Adding him to that Packer front 7 now you have Pepper's replacement.

C. Jones...1st round talent that I thought could slip to early 2nd. I can scratch him on my 2nd rd board...I didn't expect him to be there anyway.

I wouldn't take Bosa to make him Justin Smith. Bosa is a pure pass rusher. I don't see too much of an issue with just having him rush from OLB. He won't be able to drop back like Von Miller but almost nobody can do that. The common NFL comp for him is Ryan Kerrigan. Using Draftek as an example, they have his primary position as 4-3 DE and ranked #4 overall on their big board but say his secondary position is 3-4 OLB and would be ranked #5 overall on their big board in that position so Bosa is pretty scheme versatile in their eyes.

Exactly. And I think the best part is (and I could be wrong) but I don't see him being any worse than Kerrigan. Kerrigan didn't play olb in college either. I really think his floor is a good solid pass rusher and run stopper and his upside is being a great all around defender.

Of course there are successful QBs from outside the first round, but they come so rarely that it is hard to count on one happening... so to me a 2nd round pick is way too soon, for a stopgap... I would rather them improve everything they can, pray that Bryce petty shows something, and if he doesn't, then you will likely be bad anyway, and have a top pick next year for a real attempt in finding the future QB...

Lynch is still on the board and I can imagine he won't be after DEN picks...I tend to agree with you on the 2nd tier guys like Cook, but I do think he in particular is a better prospect than Petty.

The only problem with putting Bosa in a 3-4 is that it will probably redshirt his rookie year. He needs to put on a solid 20 pounds or so to play 5T. Once he does, he will be a stud. More Justin Smith than JJ Watt, but you'll take that

I think he's a 3-4 OLB for most teams
