It looks like they will get there again. How do you like their chances vs the following opponents:

Oregon
Stanford
Ohio State
Texas A&M
Baylor
Clemson
Missouri

Clemson and Mizzou could be kept within a couple scores. They'd score a bunch on A&M but not nearly enough.

The only team that could shut down NIUs offense is Stanford. All the others they could easily put 40 on. They might still lose, but it would atleast be a game.

What the hell are you smoking...the only FBS teams they have scored over 40 on are UMass, Eastern Michigan, Purdue and Idaho...collectively they are 5-33. I would be surprised if they broke 24 on any of these teams except A&M...but that one they would still lose by 25+.

I'd say it'd be much along the lines of last year, getting creamed by whoever they play in a BCS bowl game.

Let's be honest. They shouldn't have been in a BCS bowl game last year. The only tough game they won last year was Kent State, with their only loss coming against a pathetic 4-8 Iowa team.

This year, it's much the same as last year, except they actually squeaked out a win against Iowa this year who is actually decent. They're 6-4 but their last two games are toss-up games with a home game against Michigan and a road game against Nebraska. Those are going to be two tough games, so they could finish as high as 8-4 or as low as 6-6. I'm sure NIU is hoping for 8-4, but they'll probably make a BCS game regardless of what will happen, deserved or not.

How do you figure it looks like they are going to get in again. still behind Fresno State means no spot in BCS

:agree:

I think it's people getting too excited about NIU even though they're scoring a lot of points against MAC nobodies. I made the point in my post, but the only real team they played was Iowa and they squeaked that one out, 30-27. I have to laugh giving up 27 points to Iowa's offense though. That offense is the definition of anemic, with the only teams they actually scored points on are Purdue and Western Michigan (just ask NIU how easy it is to score on these teams).

I'm gonna come out and say it...if NIU played in the Big Ten, they'd probably be 6-4 right about now, depending on what division they were in.

He's probably guessing a win against Ball State would boost them over Fresno State in the BCS.

NIU probably wouldn't beat any of them, but Baylor, Texas A&M and Clemson are the only teams there who NIU would have any chance of at least staying competitive against IMO. The Huskies wouldn't come within 30 against the other four.

They wouldn't lose by 5 touchdowns to anyone.

Last year they were only down 17-10 to Florida State going to the 4th quarter. And this year they are better than last year.

You do realize that it is possible for Northern Illinois and Fresno State to BOTH go to the BCS right?

I think they'd have a decent chance against Texas A&M.

If it were done today then no it woulndt be NIU is not yet eligible. in the future maybe but highly unlikely that any of the bowls would take them with higher ranked AQ at large teams available.

I watched niu drop 30 on iowa. Only other team to score 30 plus vs iowa this year is ohio state. IF niu makes the bcs they can beat any of those teams imo. they have a top 3 heisman guy, a good team and a good coach

Any team that makes a conscience effort to run up the score on Ball St to make their case to get in to a BCS game doesn't deserve a shot, but that's just me.

Eh, if it wasn't for the early turnovers, Wisconsin's 28 @Iowa would have been at least 35.

I don't disagree that they have a decent offense, but I think any BCS bowl team will wipe the floor with them. They're still MAC team.

Any good teams that Iowa has also scored 27 on...NO. and let's not pretend that Iowa is BCS worthy. All of these teams would school NIU.
