Announcers last night were gushing about how good Tony Cruz was last night and I wanted to puke. He is captain mendoza line and no sane fan would want him in there instead of Molina.

Cards really needed to win game 2 or game 3. Lackey on the road instead of game 5....not good. Lackey is 4-0 against the Cubs this season IIRC and hasn't given up a HR to them yet but he is a better pitcher in STL

A Cardinals series win at this point should probably be seen as a choke by the Cubs if it happens

Couldn't disagree more. The cards were the best in baseball this year period. You don't "choke" against the best team imo.

I think it would be perceived as a choke or just some sort of curse. If things were 50/50 then you'd probably say the Cardinals have a 25% chance of winning the series at this point. Cards have won 101 games at this point and Cubs have won 100 so I'd say those are fair odds. The Cardinals best bet to win the series was Lackey in 1 and 5 winning and stealing a win in game 2. The Cubs will have to play their best game in game 4 but they aren't getting sub 2.0 ERA STL Lackey a 2nd time.

I just think a hellava series between 2 good teams doesn't have to be a choke on either side

No clue why Hammel is pitching. Guy is by far the worst option we had

What were the other options though besides Lester on short rest? Haren?
Haren or Wood. Hammel gets crushed early in games frequently. He usually settles down but you can't spot St Louis a 4 run lead with Lackey going.

Very true. I think issue with wood would(damn lol) be that he's pitched the last couple games in relief already.

But cards struggle vs lefties and have hit Hammel well so that may have been a better option.

This is far from over though.

He's a frustrating hitter. Awful approach but always potential to be dangerous as well if you make a mistake.

He gets most of his damage on the first pitch, I do believe. After that he tends to struggle

Don't doubt it. He's kinda attack type hitter.

As a twins fan I've seen him plenty over his career. Blah approach but if Cubs ain't careful he will get em...like his double yesterday after a putrid first AB.

Its actually fun to see how many good young players are in this series. A lot of them are on the Cubs but still..

it's time for Matheny to be fired
Why? The only guy out there the Cards fan base wanted took the Cubs job.

Also, why?

because he consistently makes all the wrong moves in the postseason and gets badly outmanaged. he's been especially awful with the pitching staff, knowing who to go with, when to pull them, etc. hasn't been much better with the positional guys either.

this will likely be the 4th season in a row now where the Cards entered the post season as sizable favorites and have failed badly.
