I might feel differently about it if I was a fan of a team spending crazy money, but I'd rather have their be a cap instead of teams being able to do with they have done. That said, seeing the Dodgers spend that much makes their failure to reach the WS and sometimes even the NLCS even better.
The main reason I am against the cap is because I hate to see teams lose their own guys because of the cap. I am OK with preventing them from signing someone else, but not being able to sign their own is hard to swallow.

I understand that, but it seems like a lot of the high salary teams spend most of it on FA's instead of keeping their own. Some of the better players the Padres have had in the last decade(Peavy, AGon, Latos) have been traded, probably because they didn't think they'd be able to keep them. Maybe there is a way to help teams keep their own but still have a cap.

Walk off walk, that's one way to lose to San Diego.

I don't like helping the Giants, but do enjoy when the Padres beat the Dodgers. Losing on walkoffs is bad enough but to not even make your opponent get a hit or put the ball in play to win makes it worse.

The Padres seem to be LA's kryptonite....just seems as if they struggle every time out against SD.

And the Rockies are the Giants' kryptonite, and we are the Padres', etc.

4-1 since that opening series embarrassment, and the only loss was a 1-0 game where Kershaw pitched a CG and drove in the winning run. We've done well against them and the Rockies but suck against SF and ARI. Some teams just have other teams' numbers, Rockies are 4-2 vs SF I think.

What did Puig just do?
Well he dove for a shallow fly ball and it rolled past him turning a 1 or 2 run single into a bases clearing triple, that might be what you're talking about.

Going 17 innings vs. Lads, using 7 pitchers in the process, then coming to SF to play...seems like SD is primed for another sweep.

And if I just jinxed it, I will kick MYSELF in the twig and berries.

At least this time we face Peavy and Cain, the first 6 games were Bum, Cueto, Shark x2. Tomorrow is a lock for SF because Cueto owns the Padres, I'd be very happy with a 2-2 split but 3-1 SF or a sweep is more likely unfortunately....just another year of the Padres getting their asses kicked. :ohwell:

Peavy yes, Cain has pitched MUCH better as of late, so that one may be a coin toss. I just don't understand the organizational philosophy of the Padres. They have tried everything without truly committing themselves to ANY real top-down philosophy within the last 15 years. Post 1998, they have been garbage minus some Bochy years.

Yeah Cain has pitched well, but if it's between facing him or the Bum the answer is obvious. It seems like the FO doesn't know what the fuck they've been doing for the last 10-15 years, they haven't been good enough to consistently be a playoff team but not bad enough to stockpile top picks like the Nats or Astros. And even when they do get a top pick they fuck it up like drafting Matt Bush over Verlander. I'd like to give AJP some time to turn it around, he tried to make them winners year 1 but it failed and now he's trying to rebuild it although not selling into a complete rebuild. It's just tough to have patience with all the consecutive losing seasons adding up, if you haven't made the postseason in a decade you should at least be close to making it.

The FO is not the problem. The problem is that you have had 3 ownership groups in 10 years. Hard to put together a clear plan with that kind of chaos.

Also, the team basically paid Boston for a GM, then paid the Cubs to take the GM they just got. They lost on both sides of that transaction. Never made sense to me.

Last, the team needs to completely revamp its scouting department. To be picking top 10 as consistently as they do and never coming away with a superstar is nothing short of unforgivable.

The lack of stability with the franchise reminds me of the Sacramento Kings, except it's multiple owners in a decade instead of the revolving door of coaches(although there have been 3 different managers for the Padres in the last year). They've made too many mistakes between drafts, trades, etc to really get further in the rebuilding process. All I can do is hope that the current ownership/FO can change the trend, but I have no reason to believe it will.

But even in doing that, he spent what talent you had in the minors recklessly, and money the Pads don't typically spend on guys who don't make sense. James Shields at 20 per? Trading for Melvin Upton Jr? Trading a lion's share to pick up Will Myers, who had been declining despite his high prospect status.

The pieces he got just didn't fit together, it was a right handed heavy all or nothing lineup that took away from one of the teams strengths in defense. The kimbrel trade was very confusing, taking on a big contract for a closer when the BP wasn't supposed to be a weakness. Hoping the return for Kimbrel can make up for what was given up to get him. I was happy he wanted to turn this team into a winner right away but went about it all wrong.
