""What is so surprising about this year's Giants team is that pretty much the exact same roster that won 107 games has given away so many games"

What? The same team? This team is missing its two best hitters from last year and arguably its top starter. Its hardly the same team

Buster Posey...that's what happens when a literal HOF level guy that leads the team just vanishes.

In my opinion they are actually overachieving rather than underachieving with this lineup

well, some of their key contributors were north of 30 and they already had to replace Posey. Crawford's been a damn good MLB player but he had never had a season remotely close to 2021 (OPS+ wise; and he had a career high BABIP). Belt's also fallen off big time (went from a 165 OPS+ in 2020-21 to 105 in 2022). Darin Ruf has also seen his OPS+ drop by 49 points. It also looks like your pitching has been somewhat shaky

Still a solid team, but it was hard to see them repeating last year's success

Yep. Last year every decision the manager made turned out right. It was an unbelievable season luck-wise. I think they will finish slightly over .500 with a shot at the last wild card spot. They lose too many games to weak teams; did it again with the tigers today

Nice finish to the first half by the Giants. 3 of 4 over the Brewers. Nice comebacks.

Well, if nothing else, the giants are entertaining. Came all the way back to take the lead after being way down only to choke it away in the end

Fernando Tatis, Jr. is beginning a rehab assignment. Not sure how long they will leave him in the minors, but speculation is that some want him up as soon as possible, others want to give him pretty much a full spring-training.
We should see him late this month or early next.

He's hurt a lot . I can see him rushing back and diving for a ball in the outfield and jacking up his shoulder which is why they wont be putting him back at SS. That Korean kids pretty good at SS so they don't lose any defense.

I loved last nights game. lol. I'm going to tonights game. I hope for similar results but "its baseball". lol
Dodgers are a hell of a team. I still hate them but you have to give them credit.

You got our weakest starter last night. Hopefully tonight is better.

I'd give him a few weeks at least. No need to rush him back. As long as they stay in the WC spot there's nothing to gain by rushing him. Dodgers have too big a lead anyway.

Tatis could DH for the rest of the season and the Padres wouldn't lose anything. Next year, they could rotate Cronenworth, Tatis, Machado and Kim through 2B, 3B, SS, and DH (with Kim playing defensively at the positions when the other guy DHs).

They have put together a hell of a team but I question two things. Their leader , who is it? Machado seems to be the obvious guy but he's not a hustler. Second is their depth overall. As you have seen there have been a lot on injuries on the Dodgers pitching staff and a couple starters and they seem to have a guy always ready to step up in triple A.

The Dodgers' success vs the Padres of late is getting ridiculous. Another 3 game sweep and the lead is at 16 games. The Brewers are creeping up on the Pads for that 3rd wildcard...

The Padres fucking suck

Kinda a waste blowing your wad when the Dodgers are astronomically better

The Padres ON PAPER are a monster team themselves. And the Dodger, ON PAPER, were astronomically better than every team last year, and they didn’t win it. This is the Padres window. They can’t control that there is another MONSTER team in existence during their window. They can only work within their window.

I mean, the lack of Tatis certainly hasn't helped. Prior to the Soto trade, Profar had been the only outfielder really hitting. They did get Drury who was having a really nice year in Cinci, but he's still a guy with a career 91 OPS+.

Even the rotation has been pretty meh outside of Darvish/Musgrove. Petco makes the pitching look better than it is.
