Just played it. The controls feel...strange. Dont know why, but they do. The "live goalies" thing seems to only be half true. I spent a bunch of time in BAP trying to run Thomas, but it is much harder then it seems. I think you can only run them while your team has the puck. I didnt notice the new AI at all, no glass broke, no goalie fights, but Giroux is one of the players on the main menu which makes it all worth it.

Oh yeah, it took forever to download.

pretty good IMO. Live goalies is kinda cool. Goalie fights aren't going to happen all the time as they shouldn't. controlls seem a bit lagged, and so do a few other things that they need to fix before the game comes out. Simming your shift on BAP takes a long time to start simming

Quick question to those who have played it. It's a small thing really, but a big thing to a nitpicking fan like me. Did they finally replace those generic goalie masks with ones that are more closely matched to the artwork the actual goalies have?

I didn't pay too much attention too it, but I would say that some are in there. They usually do a handful of them and the rest are generic.

Anyway, had a really good first impression of the game. Some thoughts:

- AI was definitely updated. It's not perfect, but it's a big step from last year. I noticed it the most in the computer defense. Better reactions. The defense gives more resistance when I drive to the net.

- I had a goal scored on me when Luongo came out to play the puck, got run, and no penalty called. Not sure how often this will happen.

- The dump and chase is actually a competitive system now, which I love. They certainly tweaked the defenses ability to always win the race to the puck. I think this was a reaction to the Bruins gritty style of play, which most of us Eastern Conference fans are used to.

- Didn't get the opportunity for a goalie fight either, which is a good sign to me.

- Wrist shot power seems to have been upped. This kind of worries me, but it wasn't a huge factor in the hour or so that I had played.

Well, that's the report on day one of play for me. Long download, so it didn't give me much play time.

Less than a month away, ritari. Currently listed as 9/13/11 release date. I think they'll probably stick with that.
