Then my point is maybe the other leagues should check out how they do business and if it would work for them. I truly don't care if a WR is as high as giraffe pussy if he catches the ball.
Why what the NFL is doing is working for them no doubt about it. It's exactly why players get guaranteed money. Most if not all NFL contracts have a guaranteed cash amount different from the total sum of the contract itself. Then if a player gets cut he still has the guaranteed cash

So if a player signs a contract and goes to their new team and decides to just become a cancer and not give 100% and ends up with shitty contributions, he's entitled to that money? No thanks.

Yes. NFL organizations need to be responsible for the contracts they sign and good players who sign reasonable contracts shouldn't get shit on because the organization suddenly doesn't feel like paying them what was agreed upon. Trades and buyouts are an organization's outs if the relationship deteriorates.

Until the MCL is blown out, or he gets busted for PEDs, or beats his old lady or gets a DUI, etc. Hell not the contract should not be guaranteed. And how many times have we seen the superstar get that huge contract and then the numbers and effort fall through

Sorry the NFL has this right

There could be provisions for felonies, but injuries are a factor in every sport. In the NHL, players on long-term IR still get their money, but their contract does not count towards the salary cap.

I agree on the provisions for injury, but not when it comes to character or lack of effort. In a job like that where there are no set provisions (ie. players don't have to live up to certain yards, catches, TDs, etc.), you can't just say "Well we think you're really good and worth it but if you choose to just half-ass it, don't worry, you're still paid". I have a major issue with that, because we've seen it in the NFL already with non-guaranteed contracts.

I'm of the mind that 98% of NFL players bust their ass and destroy their bodies for that paycheck and those 98% who make it to the highest level should be rewarded with guaranteed contracts. We shouldn't not give those 98% their money because 2% might be lazy douchebags.

Franzen is still on the Red Wings payroll - this is the last year of the contract the Red Wings are still honoring despite not having played a game since 2015 due to long term concussion problems. Long term injuries happen in the NHL too and I think those NHL players should rightfully get that money because those injuries occur playing the game.

That's only your assumption. Fact is there have been dozens of big contracts given out to guys who didn't deserve them and didn't earn them. If I have a bad year in my job, I can be fired. They should have to live with that expectation as well. The NFL is not a socialist regime, and for good reason.

ANd the NHL contract allows for that the NFL does not, and the NFL contracts have guaranteed monies. The players bargained for this, and they are aware of this, and they sign the contracts knowing this. This is why they hold out for guaranteed cash. It's crazy to me that a team should be held accountable for the duration of monies for a player that is no longer producing in a league and on a contract he agreed to. Not sure how that makes any sense at all.

yeah... :L I hate the Blackhawks and hate they got away with that crap to skirt their self-manufactured cap problems. They should've had to eat Hossa's cap hit. Dudes are out on the ice playing with no cartilage in their knees and Hossa can't play because his pads irritate his skin. :L

Socialist regime? Not sure where you're going with that one.

Are you a contract worker? In business in the real world, if a contract is signed both sides need to honor that contract or face legal action.
