A bad idea. We don't want to give NFL refs another rule to enforce because they will screw up the enforcement of that rule.

WTF? There are too many fucking rules as it is and this one is just silly. Grown men getting their feelings hurt from "taunting?" Grown men dancing like a self absorbed idiot after scoring? Let's face it, the NFL is not filled with America's Brightest. Is it really that big of a deal if someone does a little jig after a play/TD? Do you remember Mark Gastineau's fucking outlandish celebrations after a sack? LOL @ the pussies.

WTF are you talking about? Remind us all when sarcastically waving at another person became a punishable offense in real life.

I guess Tate should have slowed down and let the safety stop him because scoring TDs might hurt the other guy's feelings and we don't want that.

Maybe the Rams safety shouldn't have been talking shit in the first place. I mean that's common decency, right? They should all be polite and hug after the game.

:L
Its a simple matter if whether we should condone the behavior or not.

1st off I cant believe this is an actual debate.
It is absurd to take a TD away for taunting. there is a 15 yd penalty already for the penalty. In this era of kickers kicking the ball out of the endzone. This penalty assures the other team the ability to return the kickoff. As far as taunting penalties. They are here to stay. Ever since the Emmitt rule was put in place for taking off your helmet after a TD.
If the NFL wants to deal with taunting more harshly, look into fining, not punishing a whole team for an individuals non football action.

So whoever is arguing to take away the TD. What is your opinion, when the refs throw a taunting flag on something that could be considered not a taunt? now they changed the game on a questionable call that wasn't football related. (taunting doesn't change the outcome of a play)

I say keep the penalty on the kick off. if they want to be more strict than they already are, then pick a # for a fine that will Deter taunting. Whether a taunting player wants to complain about the fine or not atleast they know ahead of time the cost for taunting. But most importantly it allows for review by the league to if it is a taunt or not. Instead of taking points away from a team by a bad call. possibly changing the outcome of the game.

There is just no way you can take a TD away for taunting Even the most obvious taunting. The fact the NFL is even raising this question is just crazy!

:agree: Insane to take points off the boards for taunting. Fines should be the answer.

if any penalty happens during the play, it should affect the outcome of the play

This is probably just a PR thing. It would be ridiculous to take points off the board. The taunters will get their punishment anyway, whether that means being taunted back or taking a big hit.

You're absolutely right, its only a game. So why do they get to then play by a different set of rules than the rest of us? We are all people regardless of playing in the NFL or not. Its common decency to not shit on your fellow man.

The real question here is, should we encourage taunting or embrace it? Its an easy answer.

It is a competition and the mental game is as important as the physical. There should be no restrictions on how to play the mental parts because there is minimal risk of actual harm. You regulate the physical game because it needs to be reasonably safe (not as far as the NFL is going. It's a knee jerk overreaction to some public image concerns that it is too dangerous.), but the mental game needs no limits beyond staying on the playing field.

I can't believe some of your responses here. There is an obvious difference in celebrating and taunting. We should celebrate when someone makes a great play. But we don't shit on a guy when he fucks up. period.

Would you laugh in someone's face if they got cancer or AIDS? Of course not. Do you laugh at the people in Haiti when they get hit by a nasty earthquake? Of course not. Why on Earth would you go out of your way to make someone feel worse about themselves when they are down and out? Its classless, and there is no room for it in a civilized society. PERIOD.

As a Seahawks fan, what Tate did was extremely classless. And he does that shit all the time. Its shows that he classless and reflects poorly on the rest of the team as well. If you want to celebrate making a good play, then by all means, go for it. But don't go out of your way to make the guy that you beat feel like shit.

I think if the taunting happens during the play, then negate the play. If the taunting comes afterwards, then the play should stand. Its that simple. Do we really want what Tate did to be acceptable behavior? We're fucking Americans, we're better than that!

This is a little over the top but your main point is valid. There's a difference between celebrating and taunting. Celebrating is fine. I don't care what they do. Give them 20 seconds to do whatever the hell celebration they want. I thought some of the stuff that TO and Chad did was hilarious and creative. But don't aim your celebration at the opposing player or team for all to see. That's the line you shouldn't cross. It leads to fights and cheap shots and is just unnecessary. But as I said befor 15 yards is enough.

No. That is bullshit. Punish the fights more severely if they happen enough to become a problem. The mental game is what the game is about, and punishing talking or gesturing is some pussy bullshit. Let men be men.

I wouldn't define that as letting men be men ... more like let men be children ( nyah, nyah I beat you) :lame: and the reason they got stricter with taunting is because it was leading to more fights and cheap shots. I don't think the game needs more fights and cheap shots so get it at its source. I'm fine with the current penalty for the offense btw.

Handle the dirty shit directly. Trash talking and the rest of the mental game are what football is.

A penalty is enough.
