Didn't really answer the question and I understand the hesitance. IMO it would because no player wants to be the guy responsible for giving up 7 points because he was to immature to control his personal actions. The rule would damn sure be harsh but IMO it would have the affect intended.

Well, I stated that I felt someone would eventually break the rule. So my answer, to whether the rule would 'stop' the taunting, is no, by implication. It would most likely reduce it, though.

I think this rule will eliminate the taunting all together. I mean, thing about it. If you about to score and taunt, TD gets called back and your team does not score. How is that player going to feel about taunting now. He hurt his team in the worse way possible, maybe its a loss in a playoff game, or you needed that win to make the playoffs. It is going to make them think for sure. Taunting is for kids in gym class, act like you have been there. However, I do like the TD celebrations, so maybe scale back on that.

I would be interested to hear what some of the retired players have to say on this issue.

In the 70s and 80s I remember a lot of taunting. Not much dancing though.

I would say most of them would think the Tate thing was out of line. First off he ended up almost not scoring on that play because he was so focused on the taunting. Players didn't mind the taunting as long as it didn't hurt your team kind of thing back then. I would also say that Tate probably would not have survived the game because of guys gunning for him. The Commish protects him in today's game but back then players kind of governed themselves. I don't think Tate would have done what he did if that was still the same way today.

Nah. 15 yard unsportsmanlike is enough. After TDs maybe just give the receiving team the ball on the 40 or something to make sure it's a penalty. I don't like pulling the TD though.

I don't care if they think he was out of line. He probably was.

But that's for the team to handle or the opponents to make them handle. Keep the officials out of it.

the NFL is becoming a joke, but that's what happen when you start injecting bleeding heart liberal feelings into things.

I'm sure that they would agree that it was stupid because it hurt the team. I'm sure they would also think that the incessant celebrating is just as stupid.

Tate, his teammates and his coaches have all said that it was stupid because it hurt the team.

But as far as romanticizing the past, go ahead and gun for someone, you leave yourself vulnerable when you do that too. I remember a lot of taunting back in the day, now they have just convinced us that it's bad solely because it draws flags, but dancing around is "entertainment".

I agree. You already have drawn the line, why keep moving it back?

If the NFL wanted to let what Tate did slide, I support the decision. But I also support letting the Rams toss him in the crowd to see what happens. When you act like that, in any situation in life, you should have a serious ass kicking coming.(I still like Blount) Taking away touchdowns is a ridiculous idea though.

How would you feel if you taunted, cost your team and win and playoff shot? Everyone in the locker room pissed off at you......you would not feel like a dick....if you don't, then you only care about yourself.

taunting is a part of the game, taunting someone/getting in their head is great strategy. I want to see and hear all the trash talk and taunts that happen....it would be funny as hell to watch.

Exactly. Mike up all the players on the field. If JJ was trash talking Tate for all the world to hear in the way that Steve Smith said that he did the week before, we may not have so much sympathy for his emotions. Any game for that matter, there is crazy shit said and done on the football field every week that most people could handle. Tate got a well deserved flag for breaking a rule that he knew he shouldn't have. But all this fake outrage and disgust over the act itself is really fucking ridiculous.
