Former NFL players have sued the league claiming they hid information about the dangers of taunting.

The league declined to comment Tuesday about the new suit, which claims they failed to protect players from taunting.

The players say they have suffered one or more traumatic injuries to their feelings. They want the NFL and Riddell to set up and pay for a medical monitoring and treatment program for all former, current and future NFL players.
Like earlier lawsuits, this one claims the league and Riddell failed to protect players from taunting injuries and emotional damage.

Several NFL wives are also testifying. They say that taunting has deprived them and will deprive other NFL spouses of their husbands' "services, society, and companionship."

No. That is bullshit. Punish the fights more severely if they happen enough to become a problem. The mental game is what the game is about, and punishing talking or gesturing is some pussy bullshit. Let men be men.

Do you consider Golden's actions manly?

Not particularly, but infinitely more manly than having a league baby sitter say "Flag! Flag! You weren't nice enough."

If that's not a penalty I don't know what is. There's no place for that shit on any level.

Nothing. No taunt or celebration should ever be a penalty, unless it delays the game or violates more physical rules.

I don't believe the score should be taken off the board, the 15 yards on the kickoff and the offending player gets ejected. I'm guessing that would end this nonsense.

You might think how it impacts other adults is important, but what about how it impacts kids that are watching? The see that moron waving at the safety and then pull that in their pee wee league game? That's a great example.

Flagging celebrations/taunting is retarded. Let grown men be grown men and don't babysit how they talk to each other.

If Tate wants to run him mouth/taunt, it will be handled.

It is a competition and the mental game is as important as the physical. There should be no restrictions on how to play the mental parts because there is minimal risk of actual harm. You regulate the physical game because it needs to be reasonably safe (not as far as the NFL is going. It's a knee jerk overreaction to some public image concerns that it is too dangerous.), but the mental game needs no limits beyond staying on the playing field.
So you would encourage the same tactics in peewee football? High school football? college?

Im all for letting grown men be grown men. But grown men don't act like Golden did. Not without somebody protecting them from ass kickings anyway.

If the ref of the pee wee game throws a flag and the coach gets on his ass he will learn his lesson. That's how people use to learn, through experience.

It would hurt his team, but leave the points on the board. Dick move or not, those points were earned.

College, yes. High school and lower have other priorities and have some room to be stricter. But even if they ban taunting on lower levels, if they penalize 5 year olds for a little wave, the official needs to be fired.

I stated that the points shouldn't come off the board. It's an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and he gets thrown out of the game. Trust me, if you're going to get tossed for pulling that, you won't see it very often.

I don't know why it's such a wild expectation to expect our professional sportsmen to display sportsmanship. If a 5 year old can do it, then can't we expect the same from "grown ass men"?

One of our Rookie's started highstepping 20 yds early and looked like he was going to get a little showy and almost tripped on his face. I wish he would have and fumbled the ball. It surprised me from him because he does seem like an athlete with his head on straight. He's a good football player because he works his ass off, why the need to showboat? I suspect he learned his lesson though, the football gods were just reminding him that he isn't meant to be one of the dbags on the field.
