I would have no problem.... if say.... golden Tates touchdown didn't count. In that scenario if the called a 15 yard penalty from the spot of the taunt I would be Ok with that. There is no place for that in today's game

There is no place for letting something that harms no one and provides no potential for unfair competitive advantage have any impact whatsoever on the game. This includes nullifying the touchdown or penalizing the kickoff. It is fucking stupid.

I think he's just busting Hawk fans nuts there. But how far would you take it ? Suppose he'd flipped off the fans ? Would that be ok too ? I think the fact that most fans consider it unsportsmanlike and don't want to see that sort of crap is reason enough to penalize it (but not take the TD away).

sure there is, it's called a sport, it's called sportsmanship. If you just want a free for all, go build that league. If you're going to let one side act like a child with no sense of respect or restriction on behavior why make the other?

Letting grown men act worse than children because they get paid is fucking stupid too

I dont think all of you really understand how big 15 yard penalty is. It's huge and led to a Rams FG that could have been the difference in the game. Dont assume that the flagged player doesn't understand the position that he put his team in and would need to be ejected to get the point across.

Start ejecting players and taking scores away because of personal fouls where no harmful intent was shown is a slippery slope and eventually you're asking them to regulate all interactions between players. Yes, that sounds great to some of you when it's Golden Tate, but you would not be nearly so thrilled when players start getting thrown off the field from your team simply for trash talking.

A lot of knee jerks around here....

Free for all?

It rightfully drew a 15 yard penalty!

I know that, but someone else said penalizing it was "fucking stupid" and shouldn't happen

I don't know if taking scores off the board is the right thing to do, but every other play in the NFL is penalized either during or after the play. After the play, the play stands and penalty is paid somewhere else. During the play, the penalty is given at the LOS or spot of the foul.

I guess it doesn't really matter though, things like this usually work themselves out in the end., Players like Tate and Desean Jackson never seem to learn, they'll do it again sometime and one time it will really hurt the team.

Fine him if you want.

But flipping off the fans has no impact on the game, so neither should the punishment.

You can't change a game over something that doesn't affect it.

I think it should remain as a dead ball 15 yard penalty. I'd prefer to see it applied after the following kick-off rather than on it.

OR, you can't afford to act like a classless punk in a game where sportsmanship is required from 10 years olds just because you've never learned restraint or how to act with class. quit affecting the game by acting like a child when it's your play on the field that should matter.

That's the purpose of the 15 yard penalty.

Neither does shoving a ref or spitting in his face or any number of things currently (at the very least) flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. I don't want to see an NFL where that sort of behavior is not penalized. Someone made an reference earlier to the WWF that nailed it. If you want to see that sort of thing go watch those clowns. I think most fans would agree.

I was under the impression that you thought that the 15 yarder wasn't enough.

then why do players get suspended for off field behavior?

There is a code of conduct, and if a player does some douche taunt like Tate did for 20 yards on the way to the endzone, the penalty should not be a ridiculous 15 yards on the ensuing kickoff, thats not a deterrent.

How fucking hard is not to taunt on the way into the endzone. if the taunt happens after the score, then the score should count.

It's not a deterrent? Damn you bitches are dramatic. You act like this is happening all the time.

I remember WAY more of this in the 70s, 80s and early 90s where especially defenders would taunt the shit out of offensive players, then 15 yard penalties started stacking up and the situations toned down. But yeah, it's totally not a deterrent, it's an obvious epidemic that's just gotten worse.

at this point I think it is fine. I wouldn't be upset if they enforced it like other penalties in that if you're taunting at the 20 and they stopped it there and put the ball at the 35, but I don't think we're there yet.

I think we're getting close to the NFL making it a priority like they did with PI calls for the past couple years though, or emphasis like hitting qb's.

Trust me, I get tired of it from my own team's players. Hyde deserved to trip and fumble last weekend. Lattimore is playing great at LB for a young guy on a team down a ton of linebackers, but everytime he makes a tackle he's standing over the guy and yelling something. I won't be surprised to see that starting to get flagged a lot more often in the coming weeks.

Ok, lets bring stickem back and let guys go helmet to helmet like the 70's too.... You are as clueless as Tate is.

If you commit a taunting penalty after the TD, the TD should stand, if you commit a taunting penalty before the TD, the penalty should be assessed at the point of the penalty minus the penalty yardage. I think thats pretty fair. Its one thing to get carried away with a TD celebration its quite another to be running down the field taunting players... I guess since you and your team have never been there, its hard to know how to act.
