Tayloe was a very good player but he wasnt great IMO

I feel he was great when he played for those short 4yrs. Now "IF" he had a long career would he have been great we will never know.

Fine, but why do you just assume i don't watch them... I mean it is fair to assume that for players pre-2000 as i was too young to follow football... But i will always believe that the Eye test lies more than stats do...

Absolutely ridiculous... Barry Sanders has 19 carries for 22 yards his inability to help his team has led to a late 4th quarter score of Bears 37 - Lions 10. 2:19 left in the game Barry breaks for a 82 yard TD against a defense whos already looking forward to next week. Barry's final game stats.

20 carries 104 and a TD

If you watched the entire game you would have seen he was a complete non factor but if you only look at the stats it appears he had a good game.

Didn't mean to use it as the all end stat... I don't think it is... it is not his fault that there may have been someone better or at least a BIGGER name who was good.... But what stat jumps out at you of his?? I know you love the eye test, but at some point when there is no stats, including pro-bowls and all-pros, and including advanced statistics done by analysts like AV, then how accurate is your eye test??

The stats show he had a very promising start to his career... but that is something that can be said about many... It really does suck that we will never find out what he truly could have done, but i am not projecting on him...
I'll tell ya why, I was a huge Miami fan, Taylor and Brown were totally dominant .Reggie White and Warren Sappy are on record as saying Brown was the best ever. When Taylor made it to the Skins, I saw him play Dallas twice a year, and he was a major impact player. If he hadn't passed, those 2 Pro Pools would have been 6-8, right in line with most HOFers

One final word for me about Taylor. I remember on many different occasions watching him play and the announcers saying the Redskins are hoping that he starts to play up to the level they thought they were getting when they drafted him.

This has always been my Pro Emmitt Smith argument. Did he have less YPC than a lot if HOF backs? Yep. But if you subtract the 60-70 3rd or 4th and 1 or Goaline runs against 9 man fronts, he'd have been 5+ per carry...just 3 less Rings

Because I mentioned only Cris Collinsworth said that?

Also, we can go back to find you on the other side of this conversation if we really want to.

But then you should also factor in the 60 or 70 runs where he ran through a hole 8 feet wide because of that line. Also, most top backs are their teams 3 & 1 guy or goal line runner.

Well in this draft Emmitt will be running behind Anthony Munoz, Randall McDaniel and Jeff Saturday so are you saying the holes will be wider then 8ft wide then.

first off, that is anecdotal... people love using extreme examples to prove their points...

2nd. who said the only important stats are yards and TDs??

You might notice the part about him not helping his team throughout the entire game, also this is not an extreme example, I used Barry because he more than any player in history did what I said in the example. All people remember is the 82 yard run they don't remember him losing 4 yards on first down three consecutive drives putting his team in a massive hole.

But the defenses that you will be going against will be full of HOFers, instead of having maybe 1 HOFer and maybe 2 other good players.

It should be apples to apples.
Good players vs Good players in todays NFL = a hole size of 8ft
Great players vs Great players in all-time draft = a hole size of 8ft

But that Dallas line was full of great players and were playing against (on average) decent players.
