I wouldn't count on Taylor he can't stay healthy.

Yes, injury can happen and it can linger, but at this point we have to take Lynch's word for it, both will be competing for roster spots.

What positions 49ers don't need to address in offseason

This makes sense however there is a BIG assumption at DE? That assumption is BOTH Armstead and Blair are re-signed. IMO we won't re-sign Armstead and if it turns out that way, DE will be a possibility in the draft. IMO keep the pass pressure up first meaning if someone is able to play Armstead's role, i'd even spend the 31st on him.

If value is close for all positions, i'd take the pass pressure meaning DE.

Competing for a roster spot is no guarantee, at this point the guys day's are numbered. A players best ability is his availability.

If we can't count on Taylor because he was injured, then we can't count on Hurd either. DJ Jones was hurt, don't count on him? Westburg was hurt, don't count on him?

Yes, competing for a roster spot is no guarantee, but this applies to more than just Taylor.

do you have faith in Taylor to stay healthy? I don't and feel he has a higher chance of getting injured again. I've never trusted him to stay healthy.

With the limited amount of picks, it wouldn't be surprising to see SF trade out of the 1st, and get extra picks in the second/third. Positions I'm interested in seeing are DB's and IOL. A lot depends on whom SF loses in FA - I don't expect any big name splashes this year....maybe 2nd/3rd tiered guys.

Not only would they drop down, but likely at the end of the 2nd and 3rd rounds. This by itself isn't bad but then we shouldn't expect top prospects save a WR.

That is unless there's a QB the Colts want, then we might get two 2nd's and we'd throw in a later pick?

Or we take an earlier 2nd and a 4th?

We'll need to hit on this class to avoid bigger cap issues next season and beyond. "Hit" doesn't mean everyone is good nor everyone is a starter, but we'll need some late picks to fill roles or be solid back-ups. IF a good portion of this class is off the roster, our cap struggles will increase.

Depends on whom is moving up and from how far back. Look at how Seattle worked the draft last year with multiple trades.

Yes, we can move down and even do it multiple times. But the more we move back, the higher odds the picks don't pan out starters. So i'm not saying don't trade down, am saying we'd then have to temper our expectations.

With the 13th and 31st pick in round, it changes quite a bit.

Losing Buckner is obviously huge, but we just couldn't sign everyone we wanted. That's just cap life so you make tough decisions.

Sucks to see a dude like DeFo go...great player/lockerroom guy/person from all I've read. I just hope they don't use that 13th on a receiver.....that'll be a bummer.

..Might be able to move down a couple spots from 13 if Lamb, Jeudy ,Brown, Kinlaw are gone add a 3rd or 4th. Next Year OT, TE, CB, S...

Agree, losing DeFo is a big BIG loss, but the more i look at the $21M/year, the more it makes sense. We won't fit his $21M/year after Kittle, and we won't get anything near a 13th pick.

Based on what little reading i've done, does make sense to target Derek Brown or Javan Kinlaw at 13th? But there are some really top talent INCLUDING WR, so whatever is the most value is fine with me. By that i mean the one who's most likely to be a HOF or All-PRO via the 49er schemes, even if a WR.

To be sure, the 49ers have no obvious replacement for Buckner, who was a second-team All-Pro in 2019. There are players who could step in, including Solomon Thomas -- who is entering the final year of his rookie deal and has always been thought to be best suited to play Buckner's three-technique position.

I stand corrected, i've always felt Thomas was targetted for Armstead's role, not Buckner's.

I'm not sure that they drafted him with that role in mind but it might be his best position.

Thomas is usesless, regardless of position.

Since no one is going to trade for him, seems the only option is let him compete at 3T? We already know he can't play the other spots.

He won't become a star at 3T but he MIGHT become the good back-up? This is better than nothing.

This might very well play out should Brown and Kinlaw be off the board? This does take another team to trade with, so it'll likely take a QB in demand. Whether one dropped or another is highly thought of than most, it'll likely take a QB.
