I'd take Ruggs over Lamb or Jeudy simply on mismatches, the vertical speed to stretch defenses underneath, and Shanahan's creative schemes - jet sweeps and stuff. Still not for taking any receiver at 13, however.

If...IF we go WR at 13th, Lamb is described as an all-around No. 1 WR. We should be looking for a No. 1 WR meaning overall abilities short medium and long. No doubt Ruggs can stretch the field like no other prospect, but is he as good an overall WR as Lamb? Maybe or maybe not i don't know, but i wouldn't draft a WR at 13th, to "stretch the field".

This guy likes Lamb but seems to me Jeudy is a better all around WR?

Anyway, i'm also for Kinlaw or Brown if available.

Either Jeudy or Lamb are considered more all around receivers than Ruggs by most.....but for Shanahan's scheme? I think Ruggs makes the most impact.

Shannahan's scheme had Samuel doing those 'end arounds' but what Shannahan didn't have was a downfield WR. Hence the trade for Sanders even at that big draft cost. So now that Sanders is gone we need someone who is truly a WR short medium and long. Probably more medium and long, but you know what i mean. We need that true No. 1 WR we haven't had for years.

Anyway, not arguing against Ruggs because don't know how far behind he is in being 'all around'? Am saying IF we go WR at 13th, take the guy who is most a No. 1 WR. Don't over emphasize vertical speed cause in reality we don't throw it way downfield often.

Defensive Line:
If Emmanuel Sanders was still a 49er, the team could have easily used its Number 13 pick on a defensive lineman to replace Buckner. But he's gone and getting Deebo Samuel some starting help is now more important than getting Armstead someone else to help in the line rotation.

The defensive line is still in excellent shape, even with the loss of Buckner, and the 49ers' practice of reloading the line with a first-round draft pick every year, which has paid off big until now, can continue with Pick 31. Let's hope they don't go that route, but if the 49ers decide to select a defensive lineman at 13, there are a few great ones to pursue.

In the Discussion: At 6'5" and 325 lbs., South Carolina's Javon Kinlaw is going to be a nightmare for offensive linemen to block, and his game tape shows it sometimes takes two of them to keep him from collapsing the pocket. The same size as Kinlaw, Auburn's Derrick Brown is just as troublesome for opposing lines to handle. Both show quickness and athleticism for their size, but with the 49ers' D.J. Jones on the roster, there's some merit to selecting a lighter more position-adaptive player instead.

hmmmmm, interesting. So IF we go 'a lighter more position-adaptive player instead', that means no DT at 13th.

I'm still sticking with Brown or Kinlaw at this point, cause if his game tape shows he's a nightmare and needs double teams, that's exactly what we need. Don't we already have some 'a lighter more position-adaptive player' on the roster?

We need to figure out what to do with Goodwin, Breida, Pettis? etc. for draft picks this year or next.

I would like to see Breida traded for a pick. Goodwin will likely have to be cut and Pettis is either the last WR on the roster or cut as I can't see anyone trading for him.

With the depth at receivers in this draft class....I highly doubt SF gets anything for either Goodwin or Pettis.

I'm still firm in my belief that DT or CB is the way to go with the first pick (assuming there is no trade/other factors) and I'm beginning to think more CB lately. Sherman is nearing a point where he may fall off a cliff, and that leaves only Moseley....and as of now we can't count on him for the one year he's shown. Witherspoon looks to have flaked out, so if Sherman's slide begins in 2020, SF will be in more shootouts for sure.

I am warming up to the idea of receiver with that first pick....but only if it's Ruggs. He would be perfect for this offense, and the guys we currently have. I also like the idea of getting some more IOL to protect JG. Pass protection, or lack of, in the 4th quarter of the SB was the Niners undoing. No problem with either Jedrick Wills or Cesar Ruiz with the 1/2 pick in the first round.

Yeah, i previously posted if just going by Need, CB is our weakest spot on the roster. That is even without looking ahead to the following season.

IF we don't trade down at all, then draft WR and CB, we would easily see the logic. We need quality in these two spots so why dilute it in a trade down? Why trade down to try and cover every single hole we have? Once we draft these two spots we won't have a glaring hole. If we can just improve these two spots with top prospects, we're in very good shape.

As much as i want to draft Kinlaw at 13th, can't help think we're going WR and CB in Round 1.

Yep, if we want a 2nd rounder, it'll more than likely involve the 13th? We'll likely drop to the low 20's in this scenario so maybe Justin Jefferson if Mims is gone? Or maybe take the CB first in this scenario, then WR at 31st?

We obviously can use the 31st to trade down too, but that second pick will likely be a 4th rounder? Is it worth dropping down from 31st for a 4th rounder? Having a 5th year option on a top player is big as we saw with Ward and Armstead, and what we'll see with McGlinchey and Bosa.

Wow, six teams without a 1st round pick, one of them being the Rams. Aw shucks! This is probably the Jalen Ramsey trade?

Anyway, the Rams are now going down hill and their window has closed. The main culprit is obviously Jared Goff, but Gurley's injury didn't help either. Not only due to Goff not being an "All Pro", but also not having those draft picks spent to obtain him.

Tennessee sent the top selection along with its fourth- (No. 113) and sixth-round (No. 177) picks this year to the Rams in exchange for Los Angeles' first-round pick (No. 15), two second-round selections (Nos. 43 and 45) and a third-round pick (No. 76) in 2016. The Titans also will get the Rams' first- and third-round picks in 2017.

The 49ers and wide receivers: A draft tradition with no end in sight

Yep, the total failure of Dante Pettis, forces us to draft yet another WR. You can't help but question Shannahan's ability to judge talent? Not saying he can't see anything at all, but you have to wonder why he pushes it higher than necessary?

Joe Willams (4th), CJ Beathard (traded up to 3rd), and Pettis (traded up to 2nd),

Keep the picks, if there is somebody we want in the 2,3,4,5 we can easily use a pick next year to fill the the gap!!:)

Also with the talent in this class they probably would take one anyway.
