Whitney Mercilus had a good 10 yard split (1.56) at 6'4 261 pounds. He has long arms & a decent vertical as well.

One down side is his paradoxical name though. Mercilus? One of the greatest football last names; up there with Cedric Killings. However, his first name is Whitney.

His older sister (who's in med school) likes me. Earlier this year I publicized an incident that happened at a BBQ. I don't want to get into again but now, Witney is a friend of mine on FB.

Lately I've been hanging out with a few people who are in the league. Last weekend I went to a club in Manhattan with Junior Gallette who plays for the Saints.

Luke Kuechly had to run a 3rd 40 time because of the big differential between his first two 40s. That will happen every once in a while if you didn't know. Scouts will ask you to run a 3rd one in those cases.

NFL Network Unofficial LB 40s - 1st run (10-time), 2nd run (10-time)

Emmanuel Acho - 4.68 (1.52), Pulled up just after 30 yards on 2nd run (Update: Strained quad)
Ryan Baker - 4.74 (1.56), 4.69 (1.63)
Nigel Bradham - 4.53 (1.63), 4.60 (1.65)
Zach Brown - 4.45, 4.44 (1.52)(22.6 MPH top end)
Vontaze Burfict - 4.93 (1.70), 5.10 (1.71)
Miles Burris - DNR
Tank Carder - 4.56 (1.56), 4.62
Audie Cole - 4.72 (1.68), 4.91
Lavonte David - 4.66 (1.65), 4.56

OMFG!! Is that a typo...?

Take him off my top 64 rankings. On the other hand, the only person that can save him in terms of seeing some success in the league would be Bill Belichick; a la Brandon Spikes!

I said this before but if the Niners can get McNutt late 2nd or 3rd round they are getting the steal or the draft. 6'3, 4.42 40 time, 37 inch vertical and size 10 hands ( freaking HUGE mits). Guy can catch about any damn ball thrown at him.

The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward not addressing WR until the second or third. I think the guys going in the late first could be reaches. But there appears to be pretty good value in the second to third area. I wouldn't even have a huge problem using our second and third round picks on WRs.

Along those lines, I heard someone - forget who - this weekend criticizing the Rams for not surrounding Bradford with enough talent, and they cited the failure to add receivers in the draft. I don't get it. There wasn't value at WR when they picked, so they went with a DE who has big-time potential. Then they used their next three picks on pass-catchers. I think it's entirely fair to criticize them for not adding a FA receiver, but they did a lot in the draft to get some talent. That talent just didn't have time to develop, and when Amendola went down they had virtually no one who had had success in the league.

for those who're thinking draft future defensive linemen, maybe its more sensible to draft a NT? IF this guy is say a 5th or even 4th rounder, might be a consideration?

As much as Dontari Poe stole the show Monday, don’t sleep on Washington DT Alameda Ta’amu. Ta’amu at 348-pounds also posted an impressive time in the 5.3 range and showcased some natural get off burst for his size. He has a tendency to play a bit upright at times and doesn’t have the upside of Poe. However, I think he’s a much safer prospect if you’re looking for a guy to anchor in inside of a 34 front.

for myself, don't feel DL is URGENT but if the value is there, do it.

Ta'amu isn't going to last to the late-4th or 5th. I'd be surprised if he's there when we pick in the 3rd. He's a fairly one-dimensional player, but he had a pretty solid week at the senior bowl and has a pretty rare blend of size and power.

Plus they traded for Lloyd.

This draft is super deep at WR but doesnt have a whole bunch of game changing WR's. I see no reason to stretch and pick somone first round when you can get a guy that is just as solid in the 3rd round.

That seems silly, but I think he's got a pretty good shot of going in the second. I'd be less surprised by that than to see him on the board in the late-4th.

How high do you think Nick Perry goes?

Can he cover as a 3-4 OLB?

Would you trade up to get him?
