This is another problem with the Sixer "rebuild". The problem of leadership is both on and OFF the court. Without vets there to help rookies learn how to navigate life off the court, as well as develop an on court work ethic, how can you realistically expect growth?
You have a bunch of 19 and 20 year old Millionaire athletes, who are not used to this sort of limelight and attention. Even just the average 19 and 20 year olds have problems with fights and/or impulse issues. It's unrealistic to think that just because they're an athlete that they can avoid these situations. If anything being a multi-millionaire makes it exponentially more difficult.
We as fans forget that in addition to them being famous and rich, they're all still incredibly young. I mean I just found out Dorell Wright just turned 30 today. I've been watching him hoop for years and it never occured to me that he was younger than I am.
He needs to be disciplined, but he also needs guidance. That is something supremely lacking in the Sixer organization.
Should have just ignored the heckling. Neither of those dudes who got knocked out really wanted to fight Okafor, you gain nothing from a violent altercation, you only lose in this situation. But he's averaging 17 and 9 a night on a bad team so I guess it's okay.
