why would anyone want Williams or Johnson
They got their money and ever since have played below expectations

Lopez is the only one worth a look. Still young. Injury issues would have to be considered

It's all relative. For the Lakers, Williams would still be a big upgrade at PG.

I like Lopez and he's been a much better pro than I thought he'd be. Agree that injuries would be a concern though.

True. I'm not sure how much time he has left on his contract. That would have to be looked at too.

Would not touch any of them unless I was a contending team looking for an extra bump this season. Lopez is hurt all the damn time and is overrated to begin with (he doesn't rebound and his defense is average). Johnson is too old for his price tag and has no long term benefits. And Williams is paid too much for what he's actually producing. He's fallen off considerably from a few years ago when it was a legit argument if he or CP3 was the best PG in the league. Now you can name 10 guys easy that are better than Williams. Given his price tag, I'd rather look elsewhere or just have a league average PG.

But I don't fault the Nets for shopping them. Their plan blew up in their face (as everyone saw coming) so why bother riding it out for 2 or 3 more years?

"The Houston Rockets have traded point guard Jeremy Lin and a future first-round pick to the Los Angeles Lakers for cash considerations, a person with knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the trade has not been made official.

The deal initially was broached when the Rockets were in talks with Miami Heat free agent big man Chris Bosh. Lin is estimated to be due nearly $15 million next season, but only $8 million count against the salary cap because of the way his contract was structured. The Rockets needed all the salary cap help they could get, while the Lakers had plenty of room to spare."

Some good points, that's why I was curious about how much time is left on Williams contract. The Lakers are in a position where, under the right circumstances, they can bring a guy in and see if a change of scenery helps and cut him loose if he doesn't work out. Like Lin and Boozer (among others) this year. The important thing would be to do it without hurting future cap space.

Johnson only has 1 more after this one. I wouldn't mind taking him on and playing him at SF. For say
Lin, Hill and Wesley Johnson.

Okay. I knew there was something with Lin as well. Are the Lakers paying the full $15 million, but only $8 counts against the cap or are the Rockets paying the other $7?

In all seriousness the only 1 of the 3 I would consider for more than a 1 yr rental is Lopez

If im the lakers or Knicks I go all in on D Williams.

I don't think so for the Lakers because Derek Williams really did not want to play for the Lakers and they don't need players with that kind of attitude and not wanting to be there. At this point the Lakers need to lose every game and get that first round draft pick and worry about free agents in the summer unless the Nets would take Steve Nash as an expiring contract and they spoke to Williams first and he stated that he would be okay with that move

Rule,

Yes, the Celtics dont start benefiting on the Nets deal of last year until spring 2016, 18 months or so from now. That said, this announcement pretty much points to a full Nets rebuild ahead, which as you know well in LA, means a few years of really being sucking.

The 2016, 2017, 2018 chips from the Nets are now looking all like lottery picks, high ones. While they could wait to use these, truth is they cannot roster all these draft picks. Next year alone they are overloaded between Philly, Clippers and their Boston's own. What I see is a good bump in the value of these picks, and dannys arsenal of trade chips is looking better than anything he has in 2007.

Please suck Nets, we will welcome it!

The Lakers are paying the full 15mil.

The Rockets structured the contract so that the final year, poison pill, was so outrageous that the Knicks wouldn't match.

But, the average of the 3 yr/25 mil deal is about 8 mil per which is what counts against the Lakers cap.

Lin will earn $5 million per season in his first two years and $15 million in the third.
