I personally don't like either of these ideas. The three-pointer is enough. Young players are already forgoing working on their midrange game for dunks and three-pointers. They don't need an even deeper shot to work on. You shouldn't get 4 points for a lucky halfcourt heave at the buzzer either.

I also don't think they should widen the court. Defense is difficult enough under the current rules. If players want to hang out around the baseline three-point line, pump fake, and drive, then they take that chance of stepping out of bounds on the initial push off. Giving them more space to do that just creates yet another disadvantage for the defense. I can't think of any reason to lengthen the court.
I'm with you on the 4 point shot.

The enlarged court I could live with but see no real need for.

First of all, this would never fly as the actual arenas wouldn't get bigger....so this would just cut into ticket sales, concessions and that sort of revenue (or would drive up ticket prices across the board to stop the drop in attendence). But aside from that (those courtside seats are pricey, so if they lost 3-4 rows, that isn't like losing 3-4 rows of the upper seats....

But let's say that worked itself out.

This is a HORRIBLE idea....

I like the strategic move with the 3 pt shot....you get specialists they shoot the 3, if they miss, it's more likely a very athletic team like the Heat can grab the board (D boards are easier to grab than O boards) and the long rebounds yield quick turnaround baskets.....it's a nice thing the 3 pt shot.

Adding a 4 pt shot at a further distance would just make more guys think they can shoot more crappy shots, lowering the overall FG%'s a pt or 2 (if just the speciailsts did it); but they we'd also see the Josh Smith's, Antonio Walker's of the world shooting up 4pters left and right....as if you shoot a 3 pt shot at say 33% clip you could shoot a 4pt shot at a 25% clip to yield the same results....so guys might be more apt to shoot a 4 pt shot and hope they get a 30% success rate thus helping their team even if it's kind of out of their range. Heck a 26% success would still be better than the 3 pt shot.

I think it's silly. THe league should try to move to more of the post game, since that's the game that works (Lebron adds a post game and he's been easily the best player in the league the last 4-5 years, sort of thing)....this won't help the long term prospect of the game, and could make the current game a bit more run and gun perhaps but a whole lot more sloppy.

I feel the only team that should get 4 point shots is the Heat.
