That might be the worst contract in the history of baseball
Because of the logjam it creates at 1B? I hear they will trade Freddie Freeman and some of their extra pitchers for Juan Soto to make room for Alonso.

if that ever happened that would actually be a stupid move. Freeman is a GG and clutch in the playoffs. It doesn’t matter at this point, the team is so loaded and they have spent so much they are great as is

Giving Alonso that much money for starters, then mortgaging your future like that. Just stupid.

Not sure there's any truth to that. I can't find anything saying the Dodgers signed him and Freddie is a huge fan favorite.

We can start with deferred contracts for one.

Why? Is that not something that every team can do?

If the player and his agent agree to it...what's the problem?

Additionally, they didn't defer any money for Sasaki. He's only 23 and has less than 6 years of service time, so he was considered an amateur international free agent. Because of that he was only eligible for a minor league deal with a signing bonus of international bonus pool money. The Dodgers had the least amount of international pool money available of any MLB team.

So, Sasaki chose the Dodgers despite that...perhaps because they have been scouting him for years, making several trips to Japan and he liked their reputation for being great and for how they have developed their players, especially pitchers.

When no one is watching baseball in 20 years except the few 60 plus year olds who cling desperately to the sport, we can look at the economics of the game being a big factor, no other teams can't spend like LA etc and with baseball being so regional it will slowly die off in all but about 5 cities as the population who still watches it dies off.

The deferred contracts is a terrible loophole that small market teams simply cannot afford to commit to.

I will say I would bet against a Texans victory almost assuredly this week.

The Chargers were clearly not ready and have to reevaluate what they have in Herbert and Jimmy.

Reid and the Chiefs, well rested, are a completely different animal and of course have not faltered in the playoffs for some time now.

Based on recent games I would say the Texans have a chance, but you can’t bet against the luck of the Chiefs, not in the cold against this team.

This is the type of game where you play smash mouth football, not Sean McVay sissy-ball.
Oops forgot the quotes or the italics. That's not from me. Just from a general consensus creator.

The Rama have had a good run but it ends this week, hard. Stafford has a horrible record in the extreme cold.
