This is a fair concern, but there's not exactly a huge sample size to pick from here. How many coaches had a level of success that Sean Payton has had, went to TV, then returned to the NFL. The only one that comes to mind is Gruden. And looking at the state of the Raiders over the last decade, he seemed to have them at their highest level.

That's a low bar, and his interim replacement was equal or better IMO.

The Browns season just ended and every massage parlor in a 200 miles radius of Cleveland has closed until OTA's.

Coincidence?

So, did Watson do enough to give Cavs fans confidence going into next season? I can't say I watched much (or noticed much change from Brissett to Watson). He had a long time off, should still be better next year (I hope?).

Sadly that scumbag is the best QB my team has had since their return.

4-7 without him and 3-3 with him.

He had some success in Houston with far less talent on the offensive side of the ball.

He shouldn't look rusty next season like he did after his suspension.

Should make the offense look better. But it's the Browns so you never know.

I know better than to have confidence or high expectations for the team.

Payton is a helluva coach and would love to see him in Cleveland. You mentioned his final year with the Saints in '21. He somehow went 9-8 but had to use 4 different QB's. The injury bug wasn't kind to the QB situation in N.O. that season.

-Jameis went 5-2

-Taysom Hill went 4-1

-Trevor Siemian went 0-4

-Ian Book went 0-1
Yep.....Stefanski went 8-9 that year with injured Baker, Keenum and Mullens.

Nah, at the point you are up 40 and there is no need for a comeback you run the ball and kick FG's. There is absolutely no point in running up the score other than trying to show up the opponent and acting like you are so dominant. They were just pissed off about the last game so they wanted to make a point. I get it but at that point you are beating a dead horse. It's like up 50 points on a 10 year old.
wasn't watching but were they letting guys play who hadn't had a shot? I'd let them score, too.

and was also away a lot longer than Payton.

Assuming you meant Browns and not sure he did much to gain confidence....but still believe he can be at or close to what he was in Houston starting from week 1.

You said

Still no lock Payton can be a top HC without him. sure wasn't his last year in NO.

My response was about you saying Payton's no longer an elite coached because of a 9-8 season where he had to use four different coaches.

I just think he's a good HC. Nothing more than that.

don't recall saying he could not be an elite coach without Brees. Just said not sure he would be. Fair to wonder.

What really caught my attention with your comment that I first responded to was how you said he didn't look like an elite HC in '21. I agree, 9-8 isn't elite. Having to use 4 QB's though, ouch. I wanted reword my comment but you responded before I could.

And I know how Payton can be an elite coach again. Become the Browns next HC and lead 'em to 3 consecutive S.B. wins.

Can't say this enough times. Wouldn't want anyone to lose their mind and think I was actually being serious.

Not my point. How many coaches have moved to the booth, then returned to back to the NFL with success? Joe Gibbs not so much (and went to racing, not the booth). Gruden, hell no.
You're acting like he has been gone for ages....LOL

He set the bar pretty low this season in 6 games....can't go anywhere but up.

Can you discuss this WITHOUT putting words in my mouth? I made no statement about length of time away from the game.

That’s loser talk. It’s the national championship game of college football not some slanted high school contest with a mercy rule and everybody gets a trophy bull shit. If TCU doesn’t like they can stop it or they can leave the field like bitches and take a forfeit because they quit.

I am glad they blew that team the fuck out. Maybe that will give pause putting these teams in the championship. I can tell you one thing, Alabama wouldn't have been blown out like that...

They didn’t even need a playoff this year. Should have just been Michigan v Georgia and be done with it.
