They get to be drug through a trial where they relive the sexual assault and they get to deal with the cookie cutter defense for r*pe and sexual assault…she’s a lying whore, putting her whole life and her habits and behaviors on trial. Got drunk and went home with a guy a few times in college? Oh, well clearly she’s a lying whore. There is rarely physical evidence outside of a r*pe kit. Unless the r*pe kit reveals signs of violence it goes nowhere. The presence of semen can be explained away with the claim it was consensual.
GMan is also a teacher. Not sure about the Q. When I was younger, the thought crossed my mind more. 3 years ago we had a lock down and our kids stepped up and averted a tragedy. A freshmen was talking shit on social media and told 2 or 3 kids not to go to school. They stepped up and told their parents who contacted the school. During 2nd period we went into lock down. Cops came and searched his locker while he was in class and they found the kid’s father’s handgun. He was arrested on the spot and quite honestly, I’ve never heard about the kid again. Who knows where he is now.

It was ended by a brave member of a border patrol unit who arrived and went in without back up. He threw away the whole “no win” situation shit and likely reduced the number of deaths with his bravery.
Okay, it just seems to have turned into a very high risk job now.
That’s because of the innate trauma of these events. I talked to the students about it yesterday. I come head on with the kids about things happening in our world. I told them that it’s ok to not be ok, that the trauma of these events extend to every family in America that has a child in school or are themselves a student in school because the whole “what if” and “can it happen here” stuff enters the head. I gave the students those action steps I talked about before and also told them that they play an important role. We teachers and administrators aren’t likely to hear the rumors they hear or see the social media posts that they see. They need to know that if something feels off or out of joint that they need to trust that instinct and have the courage to come forward for the safety of all. But outside of that, they have goals to accomplish and things to enjoy. They can’t let fears of what if creep in and impact them.
What do you do if you don’t mind me asking? I don’t think we’ve ever had that conversation before. If I’m prying and you don’t feel comfortable, I apologize in advance for asking.
