Panthers are the smart bet. They have Shea Patterson and Paxton Lynch at QB. Not great but I didn't recognize the Gamblers QB. At receiver they have Jeff Badet, a deep threat who runs a 4.27 40 and they have a 6'8 TE in Connor Davis so he'll be a red zone target. The Panthers are also considered the faves to win the USFL title.

On the downside, they are coached by Jeff Fisher.
Like I said yesterday on the NFL board, I still have a hard time believing Todd Haley ever got another head coaching gig, even outside of the NFL...

He's not a good head coach but I think he can call plays in the USFL and it will be the difference today.

Yeah, the quarterback play was "spotty" at best yesterday, but overall, I thought the play was solid. It was solid enough to keep me watching. Definitely going to be checking out todays games as well.

I cracked up at one of the qb's being Mr. Magoo (McGough). lol
LOL

From pantherswire

Panthers reportedly have 'inside track' to Browns QB Baker Mayfield (4/16/22)

Hope it's true.

It is back next year right?

Not sure. My son has paid a little closer attention than I have because he's a professional wresting fan and first Vince McMahon and now The Rock have been involved. He says that the XFL and Canadian Football League are considering a partnership.

It could be but this is no more than a rumor (guess).

I just want a team to step up and trade for him.

Get him the F outta Cleveland.

But I don't want that schmuck outright released so he can sign with whatever team he wants. Too bad the Jets don't need a QB.

You obviously hear more stuff back home than I do. Calling NE Ohio home, not Cleveland. But is there any type of talk about any of BM's teammates saying anything positive about him?

Robby Anderson doesn't may Mayfield in Carolina.

And he'd be the best QB to have thrown passes to Anderson. LOL.

Shows how stupid he is. I'm no baker fan but when your qb is Darnold then you shouldn't be talking

Because this is the way he maximizes his revenue. Why play for 14 mil a year when you can negotiate for 45 mil? You get the bag when you can. Isn’t that what we all do in our walks of life? We want to maximize our income and get paid relative to our value.
...and in most walks of life, holding out for that bag prematurely can severely impair your career.

In truth, what has Kyler accomplished? Multiple disappointing seasons after promising starts? An inability to stay healthy? Cards could easily trade him to Detroit or Carolina (or elsewhere) and reset the rookie QB contract cycle while they rebuild, and probably should. The only thing likely keeping them out of the NFC West cellar is that Seattle did just that earlier this offseason (only with a much more respected and accomplished QB).

Building around QBs that excel in succeeding off-plan (broken plays) hasn't really proven to be a winning model. These frail QBs get broken.

It's how it works. That's why when a player signs a big contract, one of the first questions asked is "How much is guaranteed?" because there's a solid chance that the guaranteed money is all the player will get.

What will be interesting to see is what effect the Browns fully guaranteeing DeShaun Watsons contract has. I can't remember anyone in the NFL getting a fully guaranteed deal before.

I wonder if players will start demanding that?

They can get fully guaranteed contracts, they just won't be as long or as gaudy. That non-guaranteed money almost never comes to light; it's just to stroke the ego.

Value is value.
What is that value when you are about to be stuck in NFL limbo by overpaying for a QB that doesn't win big games? The only reason that franchise is even this relevant was that ridiculous gift of a Hopkins trade. In fantasy, the commish would've rejected that trade lol.
