What the hell, this USFL gane is on both NBC and FOX. Has anything like that ever happened before?

I'm just wondering why all the games are being played in the same state

It's how it works. That's why when a player signs a big contract, one of the first questions asked is "How much is guaranteed?" because there's a solid chance that the guaranteed money is all the player will get.

What will be interesting to see is what effect the Browns fully guaranteeing DeShaun Watsons contract has. I can't remember anyone in the NFL getting a fully guaranteed deal before.

I wonder if players will start demanding that?

It only works that way because the players’ association has zero leverage.

They know the rank and file players can’t afford to hold out and forgo a large chunk of their career.

The deck is stacked immensely in favor of the owners with little chance of the players being able to negotiate significantly better terms.

They have leverage, they just don't have close to the leverage NBA players have.

They can negotiate better terms, it's going to be more difficult, take longer and they're never going get to the level of what the NBA has simply because they have so many they have to negotiate for. That, combined with players who can't afford the missed time, gives the owners an advantage because the players typically have to pick 1 or 2 things to concentrate on.

One thing they should probably consider is focusing on raising the salary floor. The higher the floor, the longer the rank and file can hold out and the more leverage they have. They'll never get to the NBA's level (having such short careers will see to that) but they can definitely improve what they have.

NFL players tend to get their "wins" in increments and some of them are things that don't necessarily show up on contracts, like healthcare after they have retired to deal with the toll the game takes on them.

Part of the problem the players association has is that they've had fairly weak leadership. Part of the reason fans tend to side with the owners, other than because fans "just want their football" is that the players association has generally done a poor job of presenting the players side of the argument.

Fans often side with ownership until they learn what players are fighting for. But if the players don't get their message out, the fans just see rich guys fighting over the money they are paying to watch football and only one side is seen as refusing to play.

ESPN has shown the same game on 2 of it's channels. I can't think of a time where 2 competing networks had the same game.

We'll see if the rest of the games today are as interesting...

QB's are usually gonna be bad in leagues outside of the NFL, and it's the first thing you notice...
The XFL was fun before Corona killed it off.

Yeah, the quarterback play was "spotty" at best yesterday, but overall, I thought the play was solid. It was solid enough to keep me watching. Definitely going to be checking out todays games as well.

I cracked up at one of the qb's being Mr. Magoo (McGough). lol

Panthers are the smart bet. They have Shea Patterson and Paxton Lynch at QB. Not great but I didn't recognize the Gamblers QB. At receiver they have Jeff Badet, a deep threat who runs a 4.27 40 and they have a 6'8 TE in Connor Davis so he'll be a red zone target. The Panthers are also considered the faves to win the USFL title.

On the downside, they are coached by Jeff Fisher.
