It seems like it should be a 4 team league.

But the reason why it works is because of the way and the duration for how young players are cost controlled.

Baseball is a young man’s game. And generally speaking, by the time players get through arbitration years and hit FA, most of the big deals end up being bad contracts by the 2nd half anyway.

And teams who trade their studs at the right time, get prospect hauls and develop talent well absolutely can be every bit as competitive as the big markets. Just only for small windows of time.

Exactly. I remember the Blue Jays and Marlins each spending huge money on FA's, getting a World Series or 2 and then having a fire sale to unload salary.

The moneyball A's didn't win a World Series, but they won 103 games in 2002. If memory serves, the Indians recent World Series appearance was accomplished mainly with guys they developed.

Another reason baseball works is because, similar to hockey where a hot goalie can carry a team to a title, a hot pitcher can do the same for a baseball team, especially if the rest of the pitching is solid.

That's how the '88 Dodgers became the least talented team to ever win a World Series.

The closest MLB has ever come to being a 4 team league that I have seen was probably the '70's and 80's with the Yankees, A's, Reds and Dodgers.

I’m not sure about football.

But no chance NBA would work with this financial structure. Big spenders would win every year.

You all are too much sometimes.

Should that have been called?

I don’t know about that.

But there was absolutely helmet to helmet contact on the play.

So the tweets insinuating “cheating” are flat crazy.

That call gets made probably 1/3 times across the league.

The issue is that it's 9 out of 10 if it involves Mahomes.

Not true.

The reality is that great teams and great players might get a call to go their way occasionally that others don’t get. That is true in every sport.

The other part is when you have a dynasty like the Chiefs or the Patriots before them, they are always on national TV and people watching are rooting for them to lose.

So when those questionable calls occur (which happen every game for every time) more is made out of it by the people who want to spin the “refs are cheating for the Chiefs” narrative.
