Imo, the transfer portal needs some regulation. Seems like some players are entering every year. We have players entering the portal in the middle of the season, during bowl season and now 8 players leaving a final 4 team.

I get that coaches can leave for bigger programs and more money...but coaches aren't doing that every year...at least not head coaches.

Imo, in football for example, the transfer portal should open for about a month after the cfp championship game and for about a month after spring practice. Maybe allow some players to enter outside of those windows if something happens like the HC leaving or getting fired.
It’s coming, and soon.

Coaches also pay to leave

The players used to pay by sitting out

Make them pay an exit fee In some form and it drops (just see pre and post sit out numbers)

I think 7 figure buyouts for players would slow the transfers down quite a bit…

I don’t have a great feeling about this OU game. The better motivated team is usually in pretty good shape. I’m thinking the service academies don’t have motivation issues as bad as most teams lol.

Returning some of their NIL might make sense

I think it is amazing that in 2024

With the abhorrent portal and nil bullshit

That the service academies are still solid and making bowl games

They are getting men that just happen to play football. But yes.

When it comes to Xs/Os, playcalling, etc. I do often find myself thinking they know more than we do.

Clock management? definitely not always the case. Hell, even Andy Reid was known for a long time as being terrible with clock management. Probably still is but that Mahomes fellow bails him out.

The thing about clock management is that anyone with a basic understanding of the game, decent math skills and common sense can do it.

Don’t need a long football pedigree. Just need someone competent who the HC listens to and focuses on only that.

Why every coach doesn’t have that guy is something I will never understand.

It isn’t that the HC can’t do it, they are just focused on so many other things.

Cmon man.

An exit fee?

This is still collegiate athletics. Very small number of kids make enough on NIL to pay an exit fee.

This is a terrible idea.

Kids need to be able to transfer.

Just go back to sitting out a year.

Going to be interesting after the final ncaa settlement. I have to think contracts and a players union are coming.

You can’t compare coaches to players when one has to pay an exit fee and one doesn’t

It’s dishonest to do anything else

Coaches get buyouts if they suck right?

Oh no no no.

See…

Coaches pay exit fees when they terminate their contracts early to go elsewhere.

A scholarship is a 1 year commitment on both sides.

Players who decide to transfer are not breaching their contract to do so. Just like the school can decide to not renew a scholarship if the player sucks, or for any reason at all really.

Eh,

I think you have to start having these kids sign deals and limit the amount of times they can transfer.

I agree they need to do something.

Q’s idea about player exit fees is just misguided and wrong.

For the longest time, players had the short end of the stick. The pendulum has swung too far and needs yo be tweaked a bit, but still better than it was.

Belichick had such a guy (a complete analytics guru) going back to his days in Cleveland.

So many situations we see like what the Bears do on Thanksgiving that are just completely mind boggling.
