If we could only get rid of that Saban would come back in a heartbeat! So, rules shouldn't evolve as the game does?
What are your thoughts on the forward pass in football, Gramps?

why is that? you think they are scared to be yelled at by a better player?I do think to some extent it’s just human weakness and being pathetic
They favor top players because they’re top players
But we’ve also heard them say they try to avoid calling too many fouls on stars, I forget but it was years ago. Probably a decade or so?
In college those coaches who claim they are just playing tough d when what their teams do would land them in jail in the street
Some people are too weak to just call the game like it is

Or by the league for not protecting them
People don’t pay for them to sit on the bench in foul trouble
OK, but IF that is true then it comes from the league and not the ref being weak.Or by the league for not protecting them

I don't think refs do "feel" this way.....does the league? Maybe. But like those suggestions. The late, great Chick Hearn used to complain about 6 fouls and you're out of the game. He always said there are other ways to "punish" the player after the 6th foul.
He suggested things like any foul committed by a player with 6 fouls results in free throws, even if they aren't in the bonus...or if a player commits a foul after the 6th one, it's 2 shots and the ball.
Something like that might keep refs from feeling like they have to "protect" certain players.

The refs are human and they know who the fans are there to see. I don't think it's a necessarily a conscious choice, or an edict from the league, but it seems like for them to call a 6th foul on a star player it has to be a pretty obvious foul.
Maybe "protect" is the wrong word. But I do think the refs are aware that taking a star player out of the game isn't something folks want to see happening.
I actually cannot say I see it happen at the college level. Haven't seen a HS game in a while but when I was going to a bunch of games not something I noticed.Well you see it happen even at the hs and college level
So it could easily be both
I say until FSU shows a pulse bet against them. They should rebound, but less than a fg at home is nothing.Any of you CFB experts think Cal can beat FSU on the road today? They are only 2.5 point dogs, but I get a feeling FSU is mega pissed off being 0-3 and will take it out on a middling visiting team. Or maybe they are completely demoralized about it and will lose again. What say y'all?
Just feels like a game at home vs a non world beating team is perfect for them to show a pulse again. Wish it weren't the team I root for.I say until FSU shows a pulse bet against them. They should rebound, but less than a fg at home is nothing.
You are on the right side thinking that way if you have to bet the game. Whatever is left of that defense should be able to step up in this one. Must win game for them.Just feels like a game at home vs a non world beating team is perfect for them to show a pulse again. Wish it weren't the team I root for.
Sure, and I'm not betting it, I never bet against my own teams (I hardly ever bet sports at all, although in October my dad and I are meeting up in Las Vegas to bet some NFL games and hang out). Just got a hunch Cal will get smoked, my Cal buddies are all giddy thinking FSU sucks so they will go 4-0 and maybe get to be on College Game Day next week when they host Miami LOLYou are on the right side thinking that way if you have to bet the game.
