It's also BS. No matter how consistent and determined I am, I am never going to be an NFL QB.

Did he just out himself as a system QB essentially?

Dude what?

You don't have to apply it to being something that great lol. Is he a system qb? No. But he worked harder than most anyone despite being so (ultimately) talented. He was never the most heralded qb at Michigan for chrissakes.

Really I brought this up because my sons football team had a really tough practice yesterday and we are showing it to the boys. It applies no matter the age group.

Brady wasn't as naturally gifted as Dan Marino as an example. Not as quick as Steve Young. So this applies to him without meaning he was a system qb lol.

Which we all saw was bullshit when he won a Super Bowl with Tampa and New England fell apart.

No, it is spot on life advice.

You aren’t going to be an NFL QB because you don’t have the talent to do that job in an extremely competitive field.

But take something that you do have the talent for, apply yourself and work hard and you can be great at it.

Here I was thinking this was the only possible takeaway from his speech. Sometimes it really does boil down to semantics and people hearing what they want to hear I guess.

The Patriots failings took more than just Brady leaving. They have been around .500 and even made the playoffs once in the first years post Brady, but cratered this past season. Tampa was sub .500 in Brady's last season and over .500 the first season without him; they clearly had the better supporting roster compared to the ever-fading Patriots roster.

It's great advice in general, but it kind of implies you don't need talent to succeed which is my issue with it.

You are the only person I have seen take Tom's speech as anything but one of the best sports speeches ever.

Does not imply that at all.

If we were to list the top 25 most talented QBs of all time, Brady isn’t on the list.

Is he even top 100 in talent?

I don’t know. But he is number 1 in terms of accomplishment.

This happens every year.

The last guy to get paid is making the most money. Doesn’t matter how good he is.

2 years from now Lawrence won’t be on this list.
No doubt.....just like Watson has fallen off. Though he is at top so might take a few years to fall off. Maybe not.

Since I started eating better....I am a svelte 5-11 and 175.

That would be a rare once in a while treat....not something on a regular basis.
That's fantastic.......I, too, have managed to keep weight down over the years by limiting desserts. But when I do have them (3 days a week) I do not get cheated at all.

but when it comes to in general, yes, this is an issue.

I get what you are saying but accuracy for sure is part of talent. Question is does smarts get included? If so, I think he's top 5-10.

I think he is referring to natural athletic ability in his speech.

Have to make a case for Brady as the smartest. Hard to argue against that.

But does that make up for physical disadvantages he has when we are only talking about talent?

I don’t think so.

Brady is where he is because of how hard he worked to make the most of the talent he did have.

And it is Brady, Steph Curry and Larry Bird alone at the top for as far as football/basketball athletes who were able to do that best.

Jokic and Luka maybe creeping up that list too.
