Yeah, that's true. The explanation I heard that makes the most sense is that, barring a cfp appearance, UCLA was going to fire him after next season. They said that jumping to tOSU was "pre-emptive" sets him up for a future HC position or a jump back to the NFL as an OC.

I think he is just tired of the NIL stuff (like Saban who retired) and just wants to be an OC.

Obviously we are cheap is one reason.....but another is likely not a contender so why pay good money to a closer?

Somebody has to close and he’s got a great great contract. Hes one of the top 2-3 bullpen arms in all of baseball and his AAV is like 5 million. That’s the kind of contract that a bargain franchise should be coveting. If it’s a situation where they’re just trying to entertain the possibility of a blow me away offer, that’s another thing. Maybe it’s that.

Yeah that’s what I was saying the other day. I like the potential of a Crawford but the Phils are in a right now window with Turner and Harper being 30. I don’t bat an eyelash sending any prospect for a closer on that kind of reasonable deal with future years of control.

Unless…Guardians know something we don’t. They’re a savvy organization like that. Beware of Cleveland is quitting on a pitcher.

Don’t get me wrong. Reddick is a great player. Fangio runs a 3-4 and I would rather have an edge that can do double duty because it helps with disguise. If you have two bookends that can handle hook to curl in zone or cover RBs out to their side as well as rush the pass, that’s the home run for that scheme. They invested the 30th pick in Nolan Smith who is a similar skill set to Reddick but cheaper and younger.

If the Birds don’t get a first rounder plus out of any potential deal then there’s no reason trading him. Rip up his last year and sign him for another 3 with the last year being a year you can cut him with little dead cap.
