It does, you just don't want to hear their logic. At the end they know they need 2 TDs for a chance to win the game. In the beginning they likely feel like the other team will score again, some FGs will be involved by each team, etc. and not as willing to pass up the sure (or more sure) point

Mauer is the “new” Hall of Fame member. Instead of looking exclusively at longevity through magic numbers in totals, they now get really dialed in to the peak. How high was the high. For a 4-5 year window, Mauer rivaled some of the best catchers of all time. That was enough to get him in.

He’s the test case for me.

I don’t like that they punish some great players because of baseball’s collective mortal sin of steroids. The people being punished most are Hall of Famers and fans. How can you tell the story of baseball in their eras without having Barry Bonds or Roger Clemens in the Hall of Fame? Shef was linked to steroids if I remember correctly. He was either on the Mitchell report or the Balco depositions. He would be the first crack in these sports writers punishing a handful of people for something all of baseball is responsible for.

Also catchers are very underrepresented in the Hall. I knew Mauer would get in and Posey is a first ballot lock
