They didn't want to risk him getting hurt the last 2 games. He gets more money if he gets hurt.
he doesn't get more money- the money he gets is guaranteed if he gets hurt--- he gets sthat money if he is on the roster- but maybe he isn't on the roster. nuance DJ.

what do you think about 11 wins for the Browns?

ESPN Power Rankings had a rookie blurb on everyone:

Jones was having an all-rookie-caliber year before undergoing season-ending knee surgery this month. Jones, a fourth-round pick out of Ohio State, stepped into the starting lineup at right tackle in Week 2, following Jack Conklin's season-ending knee injury in the opener. Jones was solid all year with a pass block win rate (86.8%) and run block win rate (74.5%). Jones looks like a long-term future Browns bookend. -- Jake Trotter

nice one on Dawand Jones. The dude is just so big-- listed at 6' 8" 374...lol.

Gotta say- for not having high draft picks- the Browns got high round value out of Emerson and Jones the last couple years- which is huge. Emerson and Jones def- both go a lot higher than 3rd/4th round (respectively) if they re-drafted today. When you dont have a first thats important. Emerson def. goes first round and maybe Jones does too- at least 2nd. @Shanemansj13

Stop tagging me. I don’t give a fuck about any football opinion you maintain. You’re a front running causal and you don’t know anything about the sport
lol its okay- i get the frustration- the Giants are no joke....having to sweat that one out had to be rough

interesting read on Gannon leaving the EAgles last year- and the Eagles failing to hire Fangio who went to the Dolpins. According to the article the results:

"....Gannon oversaw the NFL's No. 2 defense.

Both units have fallen off this season, the defensive drop being more dramatic. The Eagles' defense ranks 30th on third downs (12th in 2022), 29th in the red zone (17th in 2022) and 25th in points allowed per game (eighth in 2022). Perhaps most glaring, they are on pace for 45 sacks -- well short of the franchise-record 70 last season...

Personnel turnover has played a part -- Philadelphia lost five starters in free agency -- but so has coaching. The Eagles acknowledged as much when they demoted Desai prior to their Week 15 game at the Seattle Seahawks and elevated Matt Patricia to defensive playcaller. Some players believed Desai, who studied under Fangio during their time together with the Chicago Bears, overloaded them with information. It led to confusion and didn't allow players to play fast, sources said.

Things are going better for Fangio in Miami. The Dolphins entered Week 16 ranked 13th in points allowed (20.9), seventh in third-down defense (37%) and 10th in passing yards (205.7) and tied for the third-most takeaways in the league (23)."

coaching obviously matterse a lot- I was really high on the Browns defense last season- but adding Schwartz this year has been huge---- plus- to be fair- they added a lot of d-line depth/talent which has obviously helped--- but the linebackers and db's are basically the same.

I really hope Schwartz does not get a head coaching job- but despite the injuries the Browns have a historic defense right now so he mmigtht--- but it is kind of out of fashion in the league to elevate older DC's to head coach--- seems like its mostly younger OC's.

I believe they can trade him this offseason and the cap penalty won’t be too bad but you need a replacement.

Strange bc he has really improved this season from last. With no other option, that doesn’t make sense. They gave up picks and players for Wilson and Payton. One year and that’s it? Seems strange
I don’t think so. His dead cap kicks in when he’s traded. Looks like there’s a shit ton of dead cap here.

This is what I thought and then I saw this little clause:

$37M 2025 salary fully guarantees the 5th league day of 2024 (injury guaranteed at sign)

Saw other speculation that this is to set up a renegotiation of his deal. They can’t afford to release him. It would accelerate a total that would be like 50% of next year’s cap.

It is such a weird situation.

Because he has played pretty well after a poor start. Obviously he hasn’t lived up to what the Broncos thought they were getting when they traded for him, but he has been solid this year.

And yet, it just seems like none of his teammates like the guy at all.

He must be insufferable.

Not sure what you guys heard in Washington but this sounds Wentz-ish. Many of Wentz’s issues could be overcome but he was just unrelatable to other players. Had like zero friends in the locker room outside of Zack Ertz. Russ gives the same vibe.

Flacco was retired and only signed up for a limited season. If the Browns don’t lose multiple QBs he isn’t even a thing.
OK...but he's playing really well and probably better than Mariota has in a long time.

doesn't change the fact he's our 4th QB and to compare apples to apples you need to use the 4th QB option for Philly. Or how about the 3rd?

eh

Flacco and The Browns only reached mutual agreement because Deshaun was done for year.

He was never Deshauns backup but they signed him before DTR got his concussion.
OK....but he is still our 4th QB option. Not really debatable.

I actually liked DTR since the Raven game too.
