Why isn’t anyone smart enough to realize the transfer portal shouldn’t open until the bowl games are over?

the whole early signing period fucked this all up.

need to reset it after the year again

it's like starting free agency in the pros before the playoffs start.

on the bright side the kids for ODU and WKU got spoiled.

I mean...it's not every day you get a chance to spend a winter weekend in Charlotte. It's fucking tropical there right now...57 degrees!

Why isn't anyone smart enough to realize bowl games should be canceled?

I don't know about cancelled, but there are several that could go away and no one would care or probably even notice. Part of the problem, imo, is that it's becoming more and more common for players to skip bowl games that they don't feel are "important enough" to avoid injury going into the draft.

I'd like to see that trend reversed, but I doubt it will be unless those paying NIL money start tying that to the money.

It's a tough one though. Caleb Williams isn't playing in USC's bowl game...if I knew him and could offer an opinion, I'd tell him that the number of players who participate in their teams bowl games and get injured to the point that it effects their draft status is actually very low and that he owes it to his teammates to play.

But then, if he ended up being one of those who suffered that kind of injury... :L

If nothing else, it would act as something of a cooling off period. These are 18-22 year olds who often make decisions based on emotion.

Team didn't have the season they hoped for, they didn't get as much playing time as they'd like, so they want out.

It would give them time to think things through, talk to their coaches about what plans they have for them for the following season, etc.

Yeah some of the forgettable ones like 6-6 bowls wouldn’t be missed I’m sure. To what you said though, sometimes giving those lesser ones a chance pays off because you’ve got kids that aren’t looking to the NFL, they just want to play another game of football and there are good games sometimes but results of course vary.

All that said, if bowls were gone, wouldn’t bother me.

Yeah, I love bowl season, but it just feels like too many now. There was a time when I would manage to not miss a single bowl game...there are so many now, I'd lose my job and probably my wife if I tried to watch them all. lol

I do like that they provide extra practices and a game for those kids who are coming back. With Caleb sitting out USC's bowl game, I'm looking forward to seeing what Miller Moss can do.
