Was watching live as this happened.....a freaking joke

Doesn’t look like a balk to me. He stepped off. For the umpire to not address the balk at all, he deserves at the least a fine. Players would get that penalty or more

What?

Players get fined for making mistakes on the field?

Since when?

This is equivalent to a player making an error on a routine play.

It was pretty borderline. It looked like he started to come set, then stepped off the rubber.

Probably should have let it go. But it helped the Dodgers and fucked the cheatin' Asstros...so it's all good. lol

Nope. Not a balk. Just a shitty call.

I asked my son what he thought since he's training to be a professional MMA fighter and he's actually been working on his jiu jitsu lately.

He said that some jiu jitsu training, specifically around how to fall, could be beneficial in some aspects such as keeping his head from slamming into the ground and getting his hands in position to help break his fall.He said that any training beyond how to fall, would be a waste of time though.

He did say that, because of the nature of football, there are going to be times where it's going to be of little use because end of the day, a 300 lb. dude hitting a 160 lb guy is still advantage 300 lb. guy. lol

But, as he pointed out, if knowing how to fall does nothing but keep his head from being slammed into the ground, that's not nothing.

Interestingly, he also said that, as silly as it might sound, he might almost be better with some WWE training because most of what those guys work on is how to fall without getting hurt.

Plus, it's not like he's always falling to a clean landing spot. He could be falling into/under other players legs, bodies, helmets, etc.

That was pretty awkward looking, which makes me lean balk.

Yeah, I saw it as fairly borderline.

He comes set briefly, then steps off the rubber.

If we go by the "letter of the law", it's a balk.

If we go by the "spirit of the law", it probably shouldn't have been called.

I guess I'm becoming the old man "stay off my lawn" curmudgeon, but after watching the Dodgers/Astros extra innings game last night, I can't stand the new rules they created to try to speed things up. Extra innings starting with a guy on 2nd is just retarded; it's so artificial and out of the flow of the game.

I actually like it because 14+ inning games are stupid. But they didn't need to start it off so quick in the 10th. They should let the 10th be traditional then start in the 11th. I like the pitch clock too, the game is much more enjoyable at the quicker pace.

The pitch clock didn't seem to be an issue during yesterday's game, but I don't know that it felt any quicker. The extra innings rule is just stupid IMO; it's forced and unnatural. Just let the game be what it has always been.

Sometimes things can be improved. Not all change is bad.

Sure. Automating the strike zone would be a great change. Review is a great change. Putting a runner at second for no valid reason is a bad change. Regulating the number of times a pitcher can attempt a pick-off is a bad change.

Trying to encourage scoring and shorten games simultaneously just doesn't work. Want shorter games? Call the strike zone as it was intended (letters to knees).

These are your opinions, and everyone is entitled. But you have no objective way to prove it. I'm fine with all of these, maybe the pick off thing least but it has added a lot of excitement and more stolen bases.

The games are 20 minutes shorter now thanks to the pitch clock, and the pace of play is crisper and more fun. It's better.

Aren't BA's up along with stolen bases & a better stolen base percentage with the rule changes?

Thought I recently heard that.

I haven't watched many games this season. But what I have watched I like the quicker pace.

Better by your opinion. Any perceived excitement and increased stolen bases is done so artificially. As someone who played the game up thru high school, I hate it. All in the name of offense...

Better by a significant majority of fan opinions. Some people hate change.
