One day it will all make sense
Like Wheeler right now.
59 pitches. He needs at least 2 more innings.

Padre fan energy reminds me of a vegan getting excited for cucumber water.
Over/ under on the last time either of these gentlemen have seen a vagina? @DJ you’re the gambling expert, what are the odds?
The biggest issue, imo, is his insistence on not letting a starter go past 5 innings, no matter how well he is pitching and then using 3-4 relievers to finish the game. As we saw in game 4, all it takes is one guy not having his best stuff and you're in trouble.
He does that shit every year in the playoffs and every year it bites them in the ass. You'd think he'd have caught a clue by now.
As soon as he pulled Anderson I texted a buddy of mine "Roberts just lost this series" and sure enough...
These are one of those moments where a great opportunity was lost and I'll still think about it 5 years down the road.Aww, you softened and added "gambling" to "expert", lol. Opportunity wasted...
That seems to the prevailing concept for handling pitching though. Avoid that 3rd time thru the lineup if possible. If they had hit AT ALL with runners in scoring position, that wouldn't have been the deciding issue IMO.
Just playing Devil’s advocate with an argument against. Saw this tweet this morning. Wheeler was pitching a gem and looked unhittable. He came out at 83 pitches after 7 and all of Philly was scratching their head. They turned it over to the best pieces in their pen. Unless I’m mistaken, during Roberts tenure, the pen has been one of the best in baseball. It’s not on Roberts in those spots IMO. It’s on the guys in the pen not stepping up and doing the job.It makes sense to not get to the 3rd time through if a guy is "gutting it out". For example, Kershaw in game 2 where he didn't have his best stuff and was getting by on experience.
I also think it's a solid regular season strategy to keep guys as fresh as possible for the playoffs.
The playoffs are different because of the added pressure. If the starting pitcher is dealing, then keep a close eye on him. Dude had a 2 hit shutout going when Roberts pulled him. He can always pull him if he gets in trouble or loses velocity...but he can't put him back in if the reliever comes in and isn't pitching well.
Reminds me of, I believe it was game 6 in the World Series, the Rays pitcher was shutting the Dodgers down. Mookie was on deck when the Rays pulled their starter...Mookie looked at Roberts and just smiled, then he started the rally that won the World Series.
That makes Roberts extra stupid imo. Not only has that strategy bit him in the ass every year, the one year he did win, it was at least in part because of the opponent using a similar strategy.
What the fuck is this? So these are the types of choads we cater to when we make national games start so damn late? Yikes. What the fuck is wrong with these people?

Fair argument. Big difference between the 5th and the 7th. Agree with that pen assessment. All you need is just one arm not up to snuff and ready to take the ball for the wheels to come off.Difference is, Phillies pitcher was pulled after 7 innings, not 5. After 7, you're going either to a favorable matchup or your most reliable non-closer followed by your closer. And
By pulling his starter after 5, Roberts is looking at relying on at least 3 and maybe 4 different relievers. Higher chance that one of them doesn't have his best stuff.
agree......Blame the Coach (or manager) Guy will put it on Tito for pitching Civale and, sure, it did not work......but he and his pitching coach seem like they know what they are doing and likely know their players better than the random twitiots. Not sure how much it mattered with only 1 run.Pretty good showing by the Indians, just couldn’t get over the top.
Well, they do have $1.6M in cap space...although they are definitely looming for CMC.
Still think OBJ is just trolling, trying to get leverage on the Rams. Then again, they only have $4.9M currently. Latest projection was that he may not be ready to play until December.
Was watching the Chiefs game and during the broadcast they mentioned for some reason Travis Kelce has restructured his contract. The speculation is it's a move to clear space for OBJ.
He'll end up somewhere. Only thing for sure is it won't be Carolina. But an OBJ/Mayfield reunion would be interesting.
