The thing in this instance is he put his left arm down and caught some of the weight, the announcer said that is a point of emphasis. Make it reviewable.

Something needs to change, other sports are proactive in making their sport better and more fair. That’s why the NFL is a joke. Either make them reviewable or change the rules.

I agree.

But it is the rule that is the problem.

The official has to make a judgement call on that play. There was nothing the defender could have done different.

He tried to put his arm down, but it just wasn’t possible to land any other way.

It is a way harder call than what @bksballer89 trying to make it because of how the rule is written.

The refs might not be the entire problem but part of it. The NFL and their unwillingness to change is the main issue. Goodell is an awful commissioner. It isn’t a coincidence it appears the refs do not know the rules and I don’t mean in this particular example, I mean in general. I don’t think anyone would disagree a referee/umpire has a tough job but they also get paid a lot to do their job.

The problem with you defending the rules is you act like they rarely make bad calls and they don’t matter. They can literally control a game with no punishment unlike any other sport

It's not that they aren't trying to make the sport better. It's that they are trying to make an unsafe sport as safe as possible.

The NFL is damned if they do and damned if they don't. People complain when players get hurt, and then complain when the NFL enforces rules designed to keep them from getting hurt.

McDumbass was such a bad hire. 4 losses by a combined 14 points.

I miss Biasaccia.

That is not what I am doing at all.

I have never once said that they don’t make bad calls or that they rarely make bad calls.

What I have said repeatedly is that the job of being a ref is way harder than you give it credit for. And bad calls are part of the reality.

Unless you want to slow everything down and do video review of every single play, they will always get stuff wrong. And even with video review they would still get things wrong at times.

But that is just it.

It is the rules.

The rules are designed to lead to these soft calls favoring QBs.

I agree the rules need to change. The call the official made in this game was wrong. But it is easy to see why the official made it.

By rule, if the defender lands full body weight on the QB, it is a personal foul.
People say that but are people tuning in to see backup QBs on Sundays? That’s why they’re going out of their way to protect QBs. My major issue is the disparity in way different QBs are officiated. You can do anything you want to running QBs. They don’t even have the ball after handing it out and the defense is allowed to blast them. You can finish at their heads when they slide. But if you’re a big old immobile lumberer like Brady if you get tackled too hard it’s a flag. I don’t have an issue with the desire to protect QBs because that’s what the public wants to see. Just be consistent in terms of how they’re officiated.

Literally the only reason I watch games other than the Browns is because of fantasy football, literally the only reason. I could watch any postseason baseball game, college football or NBA game. The NFL is trash and I would feel the same way if my team was good. It seems like nothing is set in stone as far as rules.

Haha! Saints are garbage but the man still found some teams he could turn his nose up at.
Offense looked great this weekend. 3 of the next 4 at home. Michael Thomas back this weekend. They will be fine.

That pick won't be nearly as good as you think

I disagree. Love the NFL. Could be a difference in the franchises we follow. The Eagles are a way of life here. A fall greeting in a convenience store holding a door for a stranger will regularly end with a Go Birds like it’s a good morning. It also helps that the Eagles have been one of the best run organizations in the league since 2000. The NFL is top of the heap in my eyes.

You’re talking about the Seahawks that have been bleeding points against all year right? Meh. And that pick may not be top 4 but it will be top half of the first round easy. This isn’t the NBA where 7-8 draft spots is a huge difference in value. Love that the Eagles have that pick in their back pocket to hedge on the QB and now it looks like they already have their QB. They can use those two picks and two in round 2 to get OT depth, edge rush, CB and S. The rich get richer. Great to be an Eagles fan these days.

It also looked good last week. 25 points is good as well

Can’t criticize both sides.

If the league is erring and the side of player safety, that is a good thing.

What happened to Tua should never be allowed to happen again.
What exactly happened to Tua? Turns out that Tua actually didn't have a concussion on Sunday and the Dolphins followed the protocols exactly the way they were constructed. This isn't going to help, because if there's any sign that a player might have a concussion, this would lead to them being placed in concussion protocol. This happened to Teddy Bridgewater who didn't even stumble after he was hit on Sunday. Teams could be left short-handed at certain positions that can lead to players having to play through certain types of injuries because of depth issues.
