Oh I have no problem trading Castillo. I think I brought that up in April. Problem is we have nobody to replace him next year. If you are guaranteed to sign a free agent pitcher to replace him, then I agree 100%. But with Depot's track record, I think we would be stuck with Hancock next year Castillo is traded and that sounds like a train wreck.I'd have traded Castillo and Munoz. Closers are always replaceable, and if we're being honest Castillo has been our 3rd/4th best starter this year, and he'd be 4th easily if Woo wasn't injured most of the year.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset with the trades the Mariners made. Just being realistic that they don't come close to fixing this team.
I get the Munoz thought if the return is too good to refuse, but replacing a bullpen arm is somewhat easy but a closer is not. We don't have one other guy that would be a legit closer on the roster or in the minors right now.
So I agree with your thoughts, but just don't think we are in position to replace those guys right now nor do I think Dip has the ability to replace them. Now if we sign a free agent SP of value, I am on the phone immediately offering Castillo to anyone for a bat or three.
