They must have changed the article! The link you posted says the exact opposite.
It says that the electronic strike zone will be used in 9 games in Florida....during spring training.

LOL youre RIGHT! now it says they clarified the rules, sane link.

Hours after baseball commissioner Rob Manfred indicated that an electronic strike zone would be used in spring training games, the executive committee of the umpires' union clarified that news, indicating that the electronics would not be used in place of a plate ump's judgment.

Rather, as umpires go through their regular spring work, MLB will be operating an electronic zone for nine games in Florida as it continues to refine its system that is expected to be implemented in the years ahead.

Not in place of Umps, though...

"Our understanding is that a camera-based tracking system will be running in the background during some spring training games for technology development and training purposes."

They've done this in the past (See QuesTec). And during real games....

The beginning of the end
It should have never had a beginning.

Do you realize the insanity of a person trying to determine where a ball lands while they stand behind the catcher?

Judging the depth of the ball from that position is ridiculous ...having the Ump behind the pitcher would have made a lot more sense.

What?

There are umpires at bases and on foul lines. Home plate is a base. And is the convergence of both foul lines.

That was about the proposed use of an electronic strike zone ..not foul lines.
