3 years is a lot at his age though, not surprised he didn’t get a lot of offers and he probably wants to win a WS. No guarantee he won’t immediately regress. Still it’s ridiculous. MLB needs to do something about a ceiling and a floor

Unfortunately, they have other problems to solve. Signing Judge would not be the answer.

Might not be the answer to all their issues, but letting him walk will open up a shit ton more.

They're basically a 3rd or 4th place team in their division without him.

Abreu's still a really good hitter. He did see career worsts in home runs and ISO (.142), but his StatCast numbers were more encouraging. 92.2 EV is in line with 2019-21, he had a xSLG of .486 and xwOBA of .373 (his actual marks were .446 and .361). He had career bests in K%, SwStr% and contact%. He did see his launch angle drop from 10-11° to just 8°.

I agree. With him, they are a contending team, but he is not the only thing they need.

that outfield would become a real issue. your best outfielder would be Benintendi. Not that he's a bad player by any means, but he's a corner OF with a career 109 OPS+.

And that's only if they re-sign him which isn't a slam dunk either

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Orioles and free agent right-hander Kyle Gibson are in agreement on a one-year contract.

Gibson isn't the potential front-of-the-rotation starter the Orioles have been targeting this offseason, but he represents a viable rotation stabilizer, and also provides more certainty than some of the younger alternatives in the mix for Baltimore next year. The 35-year-old veteran right-hander recorded a pedestrian 5.05 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 144/48 K/BB ratio across 167 2/3 innings (31 starts) last year for the Phillies.

If they want all that for Murphy the Guardians should tell them to fuck off

Yeah, if I'm Cleveland I wouldn't do that. They got 3 young starters that already proved they are good and they're under team control for a few more years. Why trade one away? I'd look for a free agent catcher.

Well they have Bo Naylor, one COULD be the next man up at catcher, but I would look at another option. The catcher position has been a major weak spot offensively the last couple years

Yeah based on his minor league numbers Naylor looks like he'll be a good hitter. Maybe see if one of the free agents doesn't get much action and take a chance on him for a one year deal. (like Gary Sanchez or something). Then if Naylor is killing it in AAA bring him up.
