Yes, i don't have anyone on my team to compare to Mantle at the 3 spot... But you might want to compare Ichiro's numbers to lofton's... they are very similar, and if anything Lofton is the better 2...

Lofton had better speed... better OBP(although close), took walks(sees more pitches)...

ichiro with 600 more PA- has BA/OBP/SB/Ks .316/.359/35/69

Lofton with 600 less PA has BA/OBP/162 aveSB/162 aveKs .299/.372/48/73

Lofton had an OBP of over 400 4 times Ichiro only once...

And by dWAR Lofton is significantly better defensively with 14.7 compared to ichiro 3.6

so not sure how it is so absurd that i think Lofton is the better 2...

Now I am not comparing Lofton vs Ichiro because I don't know as much as you and UK. I do know you can't go wrong having either on your team. I saw Ichiro play in person a few times and his speed was shocking. He hit a ball to the SS and any person other then superman would have been out. You blinked and he was already at first. To me Lofton and Ichiro are very similar and your slitting hairs deciding who is better. All I do know is Team Ritz is waaaay better then his first round opponent.

i don't care who people think is better... I just took offense to UK saying my team won't win with Lofton hitting 2 and him owning Ichiro, who is basically the same player...

He made that comment last draft when i was against Nos, saying i lose because i had Bagwell in the 3 while Nos had Frank Thomas... Yes Thomas is better but it wasn't significant enough for that to be the reason... When i see remarks like that it just makes me question whether they are basing their knowledge on what they remember about the players or actual numbers... In all sports there are players that are just seen to be better than others even if they are not... Sometimes the EYE TEST actually fails, because you only remember plays that impress you... Its not like any of us were able to watch every single game these players played...

if we are not going to do research then there is no point to these votings we will always just pick teams based on players we like...

It's not absurd you think anything, you just have a way of thinking all of your opinions are facts. What you don't seem to be able to grasp is there are other things other than OBP. If I have the leadoff hitter on 1st I want a guy who can get a hit and have a 1st and 3rd situation more than I want the guy who will take a walk giving me 1st and 2nd.

Seriously milk I respect your opinions on baseball. However man you got to realize not everyone evaluates/thinks like you. Some guys are lazy and rather vote on whose team has the most players they like compared to best stats. Some guys like best pitching wins no matter what, some like old school players. Basically we all judge differently. That's the fun part. Wouldn't it be boring if we all thought or judged teams the same way?
