MKG or HB

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist just got a 4 year extension worth 52M.

He just kind of set the market for Harrison Barnes, who is also up for an extension right now or restricted free agency after this season.

Saw really polarized opinions on twitter last night, but who would you rather have: MKG or Harrison Barnes?

Barnes is more offense MKG is more defense, I guess it depends on what you're looking for and how the rest of your team is set up. I'd probably say Barnes because I trust his defense more than MKG's offense.

I'd take MKG, for being over a year younger and I think, having much more of a killer instinct.

What I like about Barnes here is thanks to his size and shooting he seems more versatile in the types of lineups he can be used in....I don't know if I buy him being a better than average shooter for his position when he only makes 72% of his FT's...as much as I don't like to make these types of arguments, he's benefited significantly flanked by 4 good passers (and big men who set hard screens) in the lineup.

Also - MKG is easily a superior rebounder on both ends.

Barnes. He's versatile enough as a scorer and defender to play 3 positions (2 thru 4). While MKG is an elite defender, he can't score with crap. Barnes is an above average defender and would probably have better offensive numbers in a larger role, so I'd take him as the better more well rounded player.

But if MKG can get close to average shooting, I'd probably take him. He really needs to work on that because right now, you can scheme his elite defensive skills right off the floor.

This in a nutshell. Harrison Barnes is a good scorer and an above average defender. MKG is a really good defender, but crap at offense.

Barnes. He's got more handles and a better jumper along with more experience with a ring. Not to mention look at the injuries of MKG

Kidd Gil is really more of a PF.

Surprised that the majority have said Barnes. On twitter it was fire people saying MKG and it wasn't even close.

Yep. Wings who can't space hurt the whole team's offense too much these days.

So HB it is.

Going to take awhile to get used to the NBA rising pay scales. $13M annually for MKG looks outrageous but in 2 years it will probably look like a good deal.
