They still count as plate appearances, correct? If not, then he only has 99 plate appearances.
Per BBRef, OBP is calculates as...

H + BB + HBP / AB + BB + SF

Are IBBs considered BBs? The pitches are not thrown, so they technically are not balls.

So it should be 99 PAs for D'Arnaud and that is where BBBRef has it wrong.

As for IBBs, I believe they still count at BBs but they shouldn't. That is a relic from the days when pitchers still had to throw 4 pitches to walk the batter. The rule change has made that something else entirely and should be scored differently.

Nope. He had 100 PAs. SHs count as a PA. But the calc is not divided by PAs. It is divided by H + BB + SF

And it should not be called “IBB” anymore, either. Is should be called an “Intentional Pass” (or something similar).

You are correct. I missed the HBP when I calculated plate appearances. So weird that they count everything else for on base (including sacrifice flies) but not sacrifice hits. In fact, doesn't a SH already count as an AB since it is scored a hit? Seems like it is redundant to also count in PAs.

A SH is not a hit. It is an out. And does not count as an AB. However, I believe a SH, MUST result in a score. Bunting the runner on first to second does not count, I believe (or am I getting that confused with SFs?)

If a sacrifice hit is not a bunt single (like I was thinking) then it has to be a sacrifice bunt to get the runner over. If the bunt is not successful, then I assume it would be considered something else (i.e. pop out, strikeout, etc).
It just seems weird to me that a sacrifice hit would not count against OBP but a sacrifice fly would. They are, essentially, the same thing, just hit to a different part of the park. Actually a sacrifice fly should be deemed a more successful play, so, if anything the fly shouldn't count.

Jamie Callahan signed to a minor league deal. From MLB Trader Rumors:
"The 24-year-old Callahan had a brief stint with the Mets in 2017, during which time he yielded three runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Callahan’s 2018 season was torched by injury — he pitched just 8 1/3 innings in Triple-A and allowed nine runs before undergoing shoulder surgery — but his 2017 results between Double-A and Triple-A were quite strong; in a combined 52 innings at those levels, Callahan notched a 2.94 ERA with 11.4 K/9, 2.9 BB/9 and 0.7 HR/9. Callahan averaged 95.9 mph on his heater in that brief MLB debut and will give the Giants a cheap, controllable option in the ’pen if he’s able to work his way back from this year’s shoulder woes."

He also gives up too many hits but if he can limit contact better and is healthy, this could become a good under the radar signing.

  • The Giants have signed righty Keyvius Sampson to a minors deal, MLB Daily Dish’s Andersen Pickard tweets. Sampson makes his return to North American baseball after spending 2018 with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball Organization, posting a 4.68 ERA over 161 2/3 IP for the Eagles and posting a league-best 195 strikeouts. Sampson has pitched for five different MLB organizations during his 10-year pro career, though he only reached the majors for 91 2/3 innings with the Reds in 2015-16.
  • The Giants also signed second baseman Donovan Solano to a minors deal, as per the Giants Prospects Twitter feed. Solano was a regular for the Marlins in his first three MLB seasons, though he appeared more sporadically for the Marlins and Yankees in 2015-16 and hasn’t since returned to the Show, playing for the Yankees’ and Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliates over the last two seasons. Playing mostly as a second baseman but with some experience around the infield, Solano has a .257/.306/.331 slash line over 1168 MLB plate appearances.
Solano I can kind of understand but Sampson is a head scratcher. He must have filthy stuff because his numbers the past few years are awful. Sure, he lead the league in Ks in Korea but his other numbers aren't that great and he got absolutely torched in AAA in 2017.

He wasn't in the org in 2018 but I thought I'd share this (from MLB Trade Rumors) about an outfielder from 2017 whom some of us were rooting for a promotion that never came:
Former Yankees top prospect Slade Heathcott is retiring from the game, Heathcott himself announced this week (hat tip: Mark W. Sanchez of the New York Post). Now 28 years of age, Heathcott was the No. 29 selection in the 2009 draft and rated as the game’s No. 63 overall prospect, per Baseball America, in the 2012-13 offseason. However, after tearing through the lower ranks of the minor leagues, Heathcott began to struggle in Double-A and never found great success there or in Triple-A. He did have a strong 17-game cameo with the Yankees in 2015, during which he went 10-for-25 with a pair of homers and a pair of doubles. Heathcott split last season between the Athletics organization and the independent Sugar Land Skeeters, but he tweeted this week that he’s moving on from baseball in pursuit of his commercial pilot’s license.

Giants signed Janel Gustave to a minor league deal. He hasn't pitched professionally since throwing in 6 MLB games in 2017. Interesting transaction history on him:

December 11, 2014: Drafted by the Boston Red Sox from the Houston Astros in the 2014 rule 5 draft.

December 11, 2014: Purchased by the Kansas City Royals from the Boston Red Sox.

March 26, 2015: Selected off waivers by the San Diego Padres from the Kansas City Royals.

April 3, 2015: Returned (earlier draft pick) by the San Diego Padres to the Houston Astros.

October 30, 2018: Granted Free Agency.

February 13, 2019: Signed as a Free Agent with the San Francisco Giants.
