You just can't have enough light hitting middle infielders! Puzzlinger and puzzlinger.
Its the Giants' MO. They bring in a few of these guys every year. They like the depth but I don't know how this shakes out for guys like Juan Ciriaco, Orlando Calixte, TJ Bennett and CJ Hinojosa.

The strategy did get us Joaquin Arias, who, as we all know, was better than Hanley Ramirez.

The Giants recently signed a non-drafted free agent from Sonoma State - a 3rd baseman named Trevor Abrams. Weird to see a NDFA signed so late in the calendar year. Typically, these guys get signed for minor league depth and generally don't even start the year on a roster. They stick around extended spring training and get put on a roster that needs an extra player due to injuries. However, with a new minor league team in the AZL, I would guess he will play on one of those teams.

Hactor is back in the fold on a minor league deal.

I am pretty surprised. I would have thought he would have at least been able to get an NRI from a team that had the possibility of giving him the backup job. He did have a somewhat respectable .668 OPS last year.

I wonder what this means for Trevor Brown since this guys the Giants two veteran catchers, if they indeed signed Justin O'Connor (whom I cannot confirm yet), for AAA. Aramis Garcia will surely start at Richmond. I doubt Brown gets bumped to AA backup.

Giants have signed righthanded reliever Jose Valdez, 28, to a minor league deal. His numbers last year with the Angels and Padres (both at the MLB and AAA levels) are pretty yawn inducing. Not sure he'll break with a team unless there are injuries that open a spot for him.

Oh, the Giants also signed Chase d'Arnaud to a minor league deal. The Giants never seem to pick up enough middle infielders.

Wasn't he Timmy's personal catcher at one time?

I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

Slade Heathcott's time with the org is officially over. He signed a minor league deal with the A's.

Looks like there will be a four way competition for 1st base at Sacramento (with Hanson, Jones and Sands). Oh and his stint in Japan was all of 6 games.

You think he'll compete for that 5th starter spot?
Well, I already said I don’t think he is deserving of an NRI at this point, but I believe he WILL be an NRI, and will be given a shot at it. I don’t see him beating out Beede, Blach AND Suarez, though.
